Phil
PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) ? A person familiar with negotiations tells The Associated Press the Buffalo Sabres and Jack Eichel are discussing a contract extension that could run the NHL maximum eight years. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday because the talks have been private since formal negotiations began a little over a month ago. Sabres owner Terry Pegula declined to assess the status of negotiations except to say no deadline has been set and that both sides are committed to reaching a deal. ?I can tell you this, We want Jack and Jack wants to be in Buffalo,? Pegula said during a news conference at the Buffalo Bills training camp site in suburban Rochester. Pegula also owns the Bills. In a text to The AP, Eichel?s agent Peter Fish wrote: ?We are talking and I would say that we will be continuing to talk.? The 20-year-old Eichel has one season remaining on the entry-level contract he signed after being selected with the second pick in the 2015 draft ? one spot behind Connor McDavid. Eichel will only be eligible to become a restricted free agent whose rights can be retained by the Sabres next summer, though teams often prefer locking up their young stars well before that happens. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2017/08/02/ap-source-eichel-sabres-negotiating-potential-8-year-deal/104232524/ -- :tweet: @WGR550: Dreger - I still think the more reasonable comparison for Eichel is McDavid. #Sabres would be lucky to get him signed at around $9.5 million
Future
More reasonable than who? McDavid isn't a reasonable comparison to anybody. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised that, if 8 years is the number, he got $80m.
josh
I wish Pegula would have said "He better f-ing sign, we just fired the coach for him."
Phil
:tweet: @TSNBobMcKenzie: As @KathrynTappen and @DarrenDreger alluded to, BUF and Jack Eichel closing in on 8 year extension with AAV expected in $10M range. My sense is there is still some final detail work being done, papering and signing to come, so not sure when formal announcement may come. :tweet: @PierreVLeBrun: Again, believe there is still some work left but verbal agreement between Sabres and Eichel. Around $10 M per year over 8 yrs Sent from my iPhone using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk

jjweimar
I don't feel he has earned this yet. He's being placed in a category with Mcdavid and Kane pay wise. I don't see it yet Sent from my SM-G950U using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk

This is where the market is. Eichel might be the most underrated player in the league, but he's a superstar.

I have no problem at 8 for an 80 point player and I know you like me living in western N.Y. see him more often he's special but 10 seems high figured 8 but oh well Sent from my SM-G950U using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
