  1. Deangelo had a good half season last year. I'm not sold on him long term. Not sure why he'd get more than a QO or a small 100k bump more than that or something. The Rangers should make him prove himself. Even more than that, what if Fox is an instant 2nd pair defenseman and better than DeAngelo? And with Lundkvist on the way too? If he doesn't like it, then he can sit out.
  2. No, but if I'm honest, if the Rangers win a Cup I won't give a flying fuck if Panarin is a 75 point player or a 95 point player.
  3. I expect him to hit 90 points at some point during his contract here. Probably multiple times. Just not this year. I don't expect 100, but it's possible.
  4. Personally, I'm not holding high expectations for Panarin to set personal point records on this team in year 1. There's a lot of kids being injected into the lineup. I don't think you'll see the kind of production you are expecting, at least until the second year. So I don't think it's a black and white question of an exact point number he has to hit for year 1 to be considered a success for him. If he gets 25 goals and 70 points this year, and the rest of the team does pretty shitty, how do we interpret that? I'd call it pretty successful, knowing that the following year the kids will have more experience and would presumably elevate their play (hopefully).
  5. McDavid signed for 16.7% of the cap when he signed. Panarin signed for 14.2%. So no, he doesn't have to perform on a McDavid pace. All he needs to do is continue his 25-30 goal/75-85 point seasons and he'll be worth the cost. Anything more is gravy.
  6. If it came to that, there will probably be a couple of compliance buyouts to use in a new CBA.
  7. For me these are just OK. I love the Rangers jerseys and the diagonal lettering, but there is something weird about having 5 giant sized letters in red on this jersey doesn't look quite right to me. I think the font style is off the mark a bit too.
  8. Sure, but if Chytil, Howden, and Andersson are all worthy centers are we going to pay Zibanejad 10.7m at 29 years old on a long term deal? Brendan Smith going off is good stuff, but I'm not even going to pretend that happens and he gets re-signed and for the same caphit as a 3rd line winger. For starters, Zib/Skjei/goalie out in this scenario. You can't keep both Georgiev and Shesterkin. At some point they'll have to make a choice on that. Probably once Shesterkin's entry level deal is up, or sooner if either one of them pushes the other out of the way. The 3rd and 4th lines make way too much money. Buchnevich and/or Lemieux gone.
  9. Ridiculous. Easy to talk about Hedman's contract as a great deal 3 years later, when he signed it before he became Hedman lol.
  10. ? It was a year before he won the Norris. His previous point high was 55 points at the time of the deal and he signed for 10.8% of the cap. Trouba's previous high was 50 points and he signed for 9.8% of the cap. Sounds about right. Let's hope Trouba's career path is similar now.
  11. A top 15 PPG forward being available is a good enough reason for me. Rebuild doesn't mean build everything through the draft. While important, it can be supplemented from other sources.
  12. Hmm. I stand corrected. I didn't know evolving-hockey only goes back to 2007 and I assumed it was his rookie year. I never said TOI was the only indicator, but there is a correlation with points produced and PP time. 07-08 was by far his best year at that point, but he was still young.
  13. Brent Burns is a terrific example of a defenseman that can explode when receiving PP time. Very Trouba-like numbers prior to breaking out at age 29, which aligns with when he began to get a lot of PP time.
  14. If they're not good in 3 years then there is no cap problem. I dunno...make up your mind.
  15. The cap has risen from 73M to 81.5M between 16-17 and this year. 8.5M in 3 years. If it's not another 8.5M in the next 3 years, especially with a new TV deal, I'd be shocked.
  16. The cap will/should be like 90 million by then though. Hypothetically: Panarin (11.5) Zib (8.5) Kakko (8) = 28 Buchnevich (6?) Chytil (5) Kravtsov (6) = 17 Lemieux (3) Andersson (3) _3_ = 9 _1_ Howden 2.5 _1_ = 4.5 Skjei (5.5) Trouba (8) = 13.5 Hajek (3) Fox (5.5) = 8.5 K Miller (1) Lundkvist (1) = 2 Shesterkin 5 Backup 1 Total: 88.5M Even if some of these estimates are off, there's going to be ways to fit it together. In this scenario I left DeAngelo off for example. I can't see them paying Fox and DeAngelo 5+ M. There's not enough ice time to get the proper return on those contracts on the right side, unless you shift DeAngelo over.
  17. Same. Let's not forget his history with concussions. Love the player and he's fun to watch, but when his contract is up he'll be 29 with a lot of mileage.
  18. Even in the Rangers situation, $2M extra space is the difference between being able to buy out Smith instead of Shattenkirk. And we don't know what trades might have been available. Maybe someone would have wanted Namestnikov even at 4M.
  19. Wow. They took a jersey I didn't like and...made it pretty damn nice.
