I was talking about the Crosby aspect at the deadline but he has 29 points in 22 games with the Canes

I was thinking this too, and especially at the deadline I questioned what his impact would be away from Crosby. 25 points in 17 games for the Canes has probably disspelled any notion he was just riding coattails. Unfortunately he has fit the Canes like a glove and gotta respect what he’s done for them.

The Guentzel-Aho line is excellent, and I think the Rangers should be hoping to get the KZ line out there for them as much as possible. They are really good at playing even or a little better, and canceling out the Canes’ top line should be a top priority. KZ line is also plenty talented enough to make them pay if they are overaggressive and make a mistake. I think the Panarin or Goodrow lines would be a death sentence matchup wise, probably resulting in the puck being in their own end for full shifts. Cuylle-Wennberg-Kakko would probably find a way to hang on. That’d be a major win if that line could play a contain/shutdown role against their top line. The Canes will probably counter with the Staal line against Panarin. That’s probably going to roughly cancel out. Home ice / last change is a nice advantage to have. The Panarin line will need to get some favorable matchups.

But none of those games were played against the Rangers

All i know is, why not us? I don't want to hear about the Hurricanes when we've been kicking their ass for years and they can't even fill an arena without our fans. I get that they have made some additions, but so what? We have been waiting for this moment just as long, if not longer, and have been largely a sleeping giant all year while winning the Presidents Trophy. We have a Vezina winner, a Norris winner, a Hart candidate, experience, youth, special teams, and pretty much every bit of depth you could ask for. And we have a home ice advantage in both buildings.

We are kicking their asses and it starts right during game 1.

    3. Round 2 doesn’t start until all of Round 1 decided. Right? (And what happened to the short lived best of 5 series for Round 1 from a number of years ago? Do we like that?)

My earliest playoff memories are from 1991, the season the Rangers won the Presidents' Trophy.  Its been 4 rounds of best of 7 for as long as I can remember.

    5. Why can't they make goalie gloves smaller?

All goalie gear was made significantly smaller coming out of the 04 or 05 or 06 lockout.  Whichever year it was.  Gloves and blockers were both made smaller.  Leg pads were only allowed to be a maximum of 11" wide throughout the entire pad.  Chest pads were no longer allowed to have raised ridges on the shoulders to help take up space.  In the years since the initial changes, there have been more reductions.  Chest pads and goal shorts were both streamlined again in the last 5-6 years.  Leg pads are still only allowed to be a max of 11" wide but now the height of each pad is specifically measured to each goalie individually based on their height and leg length.  Large thigh rises(the area of the pad above the knee) are no longer allowed, which was the craze after the initial size restrictions.  The way goalies are getting around these rules now are wearing the pad higher on their skates and allowing them to slightly ride up their leg a bit more to cover the five hole.  Its gotten to a point where there isn't that much more that can be taken away from goalie gear without sacrificing safety.  Gloves and blockers could be reduced a little more, and I think leg pads could lose a little bit more in width but that's about it.

I will also state that most goalies have just gotten better as gear has been reduced.  Less bulk equals more range of motion.  We bitched about the loss of coverage but in the end, the smaller gear allowed us to move better.
