  1. I’d argue Buch and Kreider benefit from playing with Mika more than he benefits from playing with them. Neither of those players are a 1st liner on a decent team.

Mikas not worth 10. Not at 29 years old and not for 8 years. But he’s the best player on the team and probably could get 10 on the open market from a desperate team. This is part of the issue of not having any center depth. We either have to ante up for Mika or go get someone equally as expensive because behind him we have Strome and Chytl and that’s it.

I'd argue that Panarin is the best player on the team. However, I agree, no way I'm giving a 29 year old $10M X 8. $8.5M X 5 is more realistic.

  2. Hmm.....looks like I'm in the minority that will take Torts back with open arms. I think he's grown a lot since his Ranger days. Took Columbus to multiple playoff appearances, and based on the Columbus player interviews I read, most of the team loved him and gave him tremendous credit for their development. We are going to have a a lot of "talented" players to sign at some point. May as well let Torts come in, light a fire under their asses, hold them accountable and see whos the real deal and whos not. Night be the perfect time for him to come back!
  3. Ill say this... Keeping drury, as inexperienced as he may be, is keeping me sane. Is he going to do well? I have no idea but I have hope he will continue to build on what Gorton was doing rather than dismantling it like an outside hire might.

I think when a big trade is made this off season we have to remember whether its Drury or Gorton, it was probably coming either way. I don't like the firings personally, but I am not going to panic until I see this team reverse direction officially.

With that said, gotta wonder if/how Drury knew not to take the pittsburgh and florida jobs. I mean technically it could have been years before he got promoted. There is more to this story than we know for sure.

He knew. That's why he stayed.

  4. Wow. Crazy uncle Jim got drunk and trashed the house. I just hope Drury has some independence. He seems like he is a smart guy - hopefully smart enough to be able to avoid having to hire Messier.

After my knee jerk reaction yesterday, I've had time to let this really settle in. After sleeping on this, Drury is an incredible talent evaluator and has great hockey head. Sought after by several teams including rival Pittsburgh. There's a reason they wanted him so bad. He's young and he's very intelligent as respects to the game. I have complete trust in his opinions as I am not on the level of these executives. If for some reason, Drury feels Messier can serve a role in the organization that will help move us forward, I'm all in. Messier is probably the greatest "leader" if seen in all my years of following the Rangers. Players seem to raise their game to another level when he's around. Always led by example, and is a winner. Depending on his role, I'm fine with it, and full confidence in Drury.

  5. Right, these are things to talk about in a coaching change discussion. Attributing Zibanejad's big game to Quinn not being there, when he put up 41 goals and 75 points in 57 games under Quinn last year, isn't a thing.

We don't know the current status of their relationship, etc. What I do know is that Zib has looked lost all year. Then..first night without Quinn at his back, the gut looks fantastic and explodes for 6 points. Again, sure, it can simply be coincidence, but I think there's more to it this year than we may be aware of.

  6. I mean at the end of the day, the team staff played Quinn's system and Quinn’s lines. Kakko and Laf weren’t set free until it was 9-0 and everything looked the same. We probably win big with Quinn there as well. Maybe they kept the lines more consistent but there was also never a reason or need to switch things up during the game at all.

Really just came down to that D pair on philly going -6 and looking like they should go down the coast league

Edited for grammar because i was typing on my phone and i suck at that

As for me, nope I don't feel they put up a 9-0 shut out with Quinn behind the bench. Also, Zib has looked invisible all season UNTIL last night. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I think not. Maybe they played his system, but they had a completely different feel to their game, and I think the team can sense when the coach is unsure of himself or being out coached. Maybe it's not the system, but the person implementing it.
