Brooks Zibanejad Seeking 7-8 Years, $10M AAV on Next Contract
jrc64 replied to BrooksBurner's topic in New York Rangers
I'd argue that Panarin is the best player on the team. However, I agree, no way I'm giving a 29 year old $10M X 8. $8.5M X 5 is more realistic. -

Wouldn't mind see him on the bench as an assistant in some capacity. Certainly use that type of leadership and hockey mind in help shaping the kids -

Hmm.....looks like I'm in the minority that will take Torts back with open arms. I think he's grown a lot since his Ranger days. Took Columbus to multiple playoff appearances, and based on the Columbus player interviews I read, most of the team loved him and gave him tremendous credit for their development. We are going to have a a lot of "talented" players to sign at some point. May as well let Torts come in, light a fire under their asses, hold them accountable and see whos the real deal and whos not. Night be the perfect time for him to come back! -

Chris Drury during Panarins exit interview: Drury: Artemi...who would prefer as a coach, Quinn or Torts? LOL!!!
-
After my knee jerk reaction yesterday, I've had time to let this really settle in. After sleeping on this, Drury is an incredible talent evaluator and has great hockey head. Sought after by several teams including rival Pittsburgh. There's a reason they wanted him so bad. He's young and he's very intelligent as respects to the game. I have complete trust in his opinions as I am not on the level of these executives. If for some reason, Drury feels Messier can serve a role in the organization that will help move us forward, I'm all in. Messier is probably the greatest "leader" if seen in all my years of following the Rangers. Players seem to raise their game to another level when he's around. Always led by example, and is a winner. Depending on his role, I'm fine with it, and full confidence in Drury.

We don't know the current status of their relationship, etc. What I do know is that Zib has looked lost all year. Then..first night without Quinn at his back, the gut looks fantastic and explodes for 6 points. Again, sure, it can simply be coincidence, but I think there's more to it this year than we may be aware of.

As for me, nope I don't feel they put up a 9-0 shut out with Quinn behind the bench. Also, Zib has looked invisible all season UNTIL last night. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I think not. Maybe they played his system, but they had a completely different feel to their game, and I think the team can sense when the coach is unsure of himself or being out coached. Maybe it's not the system, but the person implementing it.

Nobody's is going to tell me they score 9 goals and allow 0 if Quinn is behind the bench. Nope....the fact that he wasn't there had some sort of impact on the team. Probably still win, but not by scoring 9 and allowing zero. Just my thoughts.

Please Rangers....don't screw this up by trading down for more picks or focusing on any other player except Hughes or Kakko with the 2nd pick!!!!!!!

Totally love how Carols character is evolving. She cracks me up!
