  1. As much as I'm down on picking D, I like that. The playoffs are a demolition derby and the refs swallow the whistle. D is allowed to batter and assault opposing forwards i/f/o the net with impunity. Of all the NYR current and prospect D, few can do that. This guy can.

Feel similarly. Especially as it's a dimension we were kind of lacking.

Now I remind myself he's only 18 and a frshman at Wisconsin and I'm just going to have to be patient.

  2. You know I'm not one to rush 18 y/o's let alone a kid who is still 17. Yet, this kid should be on the accelerated dev track of Lindberg and Fast, cause he has more skill and mature game. He should be fine with just one more year in the SHL. Then I'd like to get him over here for strength training and to adjust to the NA ice/game.

Nice and normal. Barring any setbacks, he gets a full year in Hartford, then reports to camp to try and make the team in 2020,

I know you're not one to rush, and this is not to take a shot, as I am also intrigued he has been more than holding his own in a man's league ... and I would not be surprised if his trajectory winds up like you call.

But as an aside, I heard an interesting quote Friday night on the radio attributed to I think someone on the Knicks management, maybe Steve Perry,

    And I paraphrase from memory-bcs I can't provide a link:

He said, "We are finally doing what a lot of Knicks fans have been asking for for several years, to rebuild with patience —after pulling the plug on it several times— but what I learned about New York is that while fans want the patient rebuild, the very next thing they want is for you to do is 'hurry up the patience.' "

And that might be our NYR predicament fairly soon.

  3. Hate him or love him , he knows how to keep listeners coming back

The kind of sycophant blow-hard listeners he attracts I'm not sure I want to listen anymore. He was better as a duo earlier in his career until his ego increasingly swallowed the microphone. Can't listen to him anymore.

The Michael Kay Show is awesome. I can’t even stand the sound of Francesca’s voice.

    bingo!

I like his voice even less than the recorded sound of my own (which sometimes has to happen in recorded interviews) I hate it, and that's saying somethine.

  4. Kingston Frontenacs Eliminated

    Day's final Playoff stat line

Day's combined Reg season stat line

Maybe not the explosive supposed final OHL season folks were looking for, but he did produce in the playoffs.

Might he be a player that rises to the occasion? There are signs he might -- see below.

With more seasoning and coaching will he be able to solve the rep he has for making bad defensive reads, I don't know, but I would not consign him to the "fuhgeddaboudit" pile just yet. Give him time ...

Day scored twice and added two assists in OHL Kingston's 6-5 Game 5 triple overtime win over North Bay on Saturday.

"Defenceman Sean Day had a goal and two assists as Kingston downed the Hamilton Bulldogs in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final 5-2 on Tuesday"

“If he tries to make the extra play, and it doesn’t work out, he’s the first one back on the backcheck,” DiPietro said.

It’s true, and it’s going to be an important aspect of his game going forward. His workrate and skating ability allows him to recover and negate mistakes. In the minds of coaches, that will help to justify the risks he takes to make plays.

While I contemplated whether Day would play in the AHL or OHL this season, an OHL executive reached out to me to say he hoped it was AHL so that his team wouldn’t have to face him anymore.

  5. So apparently Sean Day is doing OK

Let's not forget him NY with all the bright shiny new toys we have in the system.

Sean Day tallied three points (one goal, two assists) and was selected as the game's First Star last night in Kingston's win against Hamilton. Day has notched 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 15 playoff games this year, and he ranks third among OHL defensemen in points. #NYR

  6. Day traded to Kingston with Gabe Vilardi as Windsor is rebuilding despite being pretty good.

Thanks for the heads-up on the trade, @Dunny

    Through the trade, Day was

    27games 4goals 17assists 21points

.77 points per game. Not too shabby at all.

That's also an improvement over last season, when he was 0.55 points per game with the Spitfires.

He has clearly been helping generate a lot of team offense from a playmaking perspective.

To put it in another perspective, Shattenkirk is producing .59 points per game, so Sean Day was having a strong impact for the Spitfires this year.

It would be nice if Elite Prospects could supply another update as their current one is 2 years old

Mr PhillyB ... I don't come to the bar room much thee days, as I am spending more time with wife and family and outdoors sports, (and freaking work) but I was absolutely thrilled to see this.

I wish you a very happy life together! The young lady's face looks familiar, I think we've seen you post pics of her before, right?

I raise a glass to you!

  8. Pack 2 - 1 LV Phantoms

    10/8

Adam Tambellini scored the only goal of the shootout, and the only Wolf Pack regulation goal, against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Sunday at the XL Center, in a 2-1 Wolf Pack win.

The game featured a fine goaltending duel between the Wolf Pack’s Chris Nell, who made 28 saves and went 3-for-3 in the shootout, and Lehigh Valley’s Alex Lyon, who stopped 35 shots and was 2-for-3 on shootout attempts.

Just like Friday’s Wolf Pack opener, a 5-4 loss to the Charlotte Checkers, the Wolf Pack scored first in Sunday’s matchup. After Lehigh Valley racked up slashing penalties to T.J. Brennan and Phil Myers, the Pack was given a 5-on-3 opportunity. At the 9:40 mark, Joe Whitney snapped a pass to a wide-open Tambellini on the left back door. Defensemen Nick Pionk also assisted on the goal.

Tambellini said of his power play goal, “Joe’s an extremely skilled player and he really did the whole thing. I just put it in.”

Both teams continued to exchange chances, but could not get another goal until there was 2:07 left in the first.

  9. Defenseman Sean Day scored a goal and was a plus-3 in Windsor's 7-1 win over Oshawa in the Ontario Hockey League Thursday night.

The 2016 third round pick's 14 goals this season are a career-high, and he has 28 points in 47 games split between Mississauga and Windsor this season.

Steady as she goes ... upwards

  10. Looking good on the Igor Shestyorkin/Shesterkin front. I'm not going to lie, since the first video I saw of him, I have high hopes, so seeing positive updates increases the smile factor.

Goaltender Igor Shesterkin made 20 saves in a 5-3 SKA win over Traktor Sunday in the Kontinental Hockey League. The netminder is 26-3-5 with a .939 SV% and a 1.59 GAA with eight shutouts this season. He's third in the KHL in save percentage, fourth in goals against average and second in shutouts.

  11. Igor Shestyorkin is 20 years old. The youngest goalies to play any significant time in back up roles this past season were 22. This is perfectly fine for his development. The KHL is a good league for him to fight to become a starter in.

Thanks for the word. Sounds like good news and good timing, then.

P.S. The King says the rest of the NHL's goalies can eat worms as far as he's concerned
