Didn't he center the first line with success in Tampa? Why couldn't he slot up & down here successfully if there was an injury to say Zib? I agree signing him to the contract was nuts, but getting rid of him at this point in the season is questionable in the least unless the freed salary cap will be spent on something bigger & better soon (as in a trade for a #2 center).

Great call by Howie Rose. I was watching on a 40" TV, which was a big TV at that time, and when the puck went in I swore it was Tikkanen who scored the goal off a pass from Matteau. I was yelling Tik Tik, LOL I don't think Sam knew who scored until the replay.

Doesn't Kreider still have a year left on his contract? Why must we decide NOW whether to deal or extend his contract? Why not let him play out the last year of his existing contract and make a decision at next year's trade deadline?

How about Shattenkirk to Tampa for Callahan? Only 1 year of Cally at 5.8mm cap hit vs. 2 years of Shatt at 6.65mm. Have to admit I still have a soft spot for RC since 10 years ago I named my cat after him (Cally). But I wouldn't do this unless Tampa took our junk in exchange.

A 4 year, $25 million commitment is probably fair for Kreider. I might even go to 5/30. That’d also be in a fair ballpark for him. But anymore than that would IMO be too much.

 

I'm good with those numbers, and would also consider 3/20. Can't just look at point production with CK either, how many goals did the Rangers score with him parked in front of the crease screening the goalie? No assist but quite effective.
