It could, but it would be really strange if they had the convo and things still ended like this. Don't you think?

No news about Rangers shopping him, no news or biggie when he got sent down. There was no sign of Rangers looking to trade him or him wanting to leave before BOOM.

They ofcourse could've had that conversation and managed to hold it secret really well. But not even his agent slipping up or anything. Doesnt sound likely to me, but you never know.

Right, which leads me to the conclusion that this MAY be all about the attitude and expectations coming from the Krav side of things.  If him, and his agent are being totally unreasonable and are demanding the Rangers put him on their top line or maybe top 2 lines, what would you have the Rangers do?

This very well could all be about teaching Krav and his agent a cold harsh lesson and helping them to adjust their attitude moving forward.  Or they do find a team willing to give the Rangers a boatload in a trade.  Either way, it works out in the long run for the Rangers, right?

  2. Hang on....let's spin this another way, just to play Devil's advocate.

What we know:  The Rangers have given him permission to seek a trade.

All this really means is they have given him and his agent permission to talk with other teams.

Maybe the issue is that Krav sees himself as a 1st line forward, maybe even 1st or 2nd line forward.  Right now, like on 10/12/2021.

So maybe, all these discussions were had with the kid and his agent, they told him what he needs to work on in Hartford, told him this was short-term, etc.

And maybe him and the agent still disagree with the Rangers vision for him.  They are firmly planted in their position.  Drury keeps telling them "Guys, I've checked with every other GM in the league, no one will give up that sort of value for you".  They still insist.

The Rangers say OK, well fine, go talk with other teams if you don't believe me, find out for yourself what their opinion is of you.   If they value you at 1st / 2nd line player value right now, we expect they would trade X for you.  I've talked with every other team in the league, no one will give us X.  If you don't believe me, please go check for yourselves.

So maybe this is more of a reality check type thing for Krav and his agent, and they may just have cold harsh reality smack them in the face.  The next time they speak with the Rangers, it may very well be with a much different attitude.  Perhaps this is all this is about.

  3. Honestly, don't want people like this as part of our organization.

This is a Hockey TEAM.  To win, you need people who are self-less.

This Me Me Me mentality is not good for the team.

Could this have been handled better?  Probably.

Bottom line, the Rangers control his rights and will ultimately decide what happens to him, and when.

The way this cry baby is acting, why would the Rangers do anything but what's in their own best interest at this point?  What other options does Krav have?

I say, if other teams are low-balling, just sit on his rights.  Eventually someone will give us a fair offer for him, and then we'll trade him.

Personally, I hope they send him to Siberia.  Good riddance.

  4. Absolutely a 10!

Not saying I expect a cup this year, but there is so much to be excited about.  If you are not excited 1 week before the season starts, why are you even here?

Personally, I am hoping Kakko takes a huge step this year. I really like the kid, was so excited when they got him...I think this is the year he steps up and shows what he can do.   If healthy, I think 25-30 Goals.  The evolution into what should be a budding SuperStar is worth the price of admission to me.

    LGR!

  5. I like to think of it like a tool in the toolbox.  Can a player play that way, if he has to?  Not saying he's going to always play that way, or  even that it comes naturally.  Some skills are learned, not instinctive.  Sometimes, that's enough.

This is where players who mastered said skills (In this instance, physicality / playing a cycling type game) are invaluable.  They can teach / lead the way and others can learn and follow.

It's nice to have "Masters" of different skills and different styles of play on your team, for others, especially younger guys, to lean on and learn from.  Maybe years down the road, those  younger guys will grow to the point of mastery.  This is one of the reasons why coaches are always looking for experienced players, guys who've been through the battles.  It's so important, especially for a young team like this one.

Looking forward to seeing how quickly these younger guys can learn and adapt to this new style, and who can master this new tool for their toolbox.

  6. Remember, they had very little cap to spend last offseason. They certainly could have addressed the toughness / harder to play against issue, but realistically, how much could they have done?

More than likely, Gordon and JD were looking to this offseason to address it...then the Wilson / Islanders thing blew up in their face towards the end of the season.

Either way, I like the moves this offseason...New Coach, new bottom 6, new 3rd pair on D, new attitude... Let's F'n Go!

  7. Whoever thinks we are contending next year is getting ahead of themselves. They need to make the playoffs first. Stanley Cup teams don't just show up one year after missing the playoffs for years. Contending takes time and lessons learned. This team is young and has the talent to eventually contend. What's important now is putting themselves into position to gain that experience and learn those lessons. Hopefully the end of it all is a cup in the years to come. Next year is all about making the playoffs and playing in at least one very competitive series. That should be the goal and the foundation to build upon.

  8. Good choice. I remember watching his teams in Florida and more recently in Vegas. I was super impressed with how he lead that very first Vegas Golden Knights team. They were a very fun team to watch and root for. To this day, I still sorta like Golden Knights, although admittedly it's very hard to root for Fleury.

Would love to know why he seems to flame out after about 3 years on all his stops. Sometimes, when a coach is really intense, that style can wear real thin after awhile? Or is it more than that? Maybe different reasons at different stops...

Anyway, whatever the reason(s), hopefully with age and experience comes wisdom and he can avoid whatever pitfalls may have occurred previously.

Here's to Gallant being a very successful head coach of the New York Rangers for a long time!

  9. Coach is the Leader (or at least should be)...huge in helping setup the culture of a team (Good culture is important)...then the obvious Preparation and X's and O's part of the game. Game management is important, player management....I'd say Coaching is about 40%.

Even the best coaches in the world can't win without the players.

However, bad coaches can create an environment where it's impossible to win, even for the most talented teams.
