NYR2711
sucks that his lasting work was whatever the fuck that Metallica collaboration was :( He had actually been working on this project for a long time, he only brought Metallica into it at the end. It wasn't good for both sides, but this is actually considered a Lou Reed album featuring Metallica. He wrote the whole project.
NYRangers92
doesnt change the fact that it sounded like garbage
NYR2711
I agree it was garbage, but he was still writing it when he was making good music. I think he started it back in the 80's from articles I have read on it. I like Lou and love Metallica, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it. I got it from my library and it was so bad that I didn't even want to burn it and put it on my computer.
Jules
Lulu as an album was forgettable, but Perfect Day is one of the best piano songs of all-time and Transformer a generational album.

siddious
Agreed. Not sure what you mean by calling that his lasting work. His velvet underground work is what sticks out in my mind.
Pete
Maybe it was a typo? Maybe he just meant "last"...?
Respecttheblue
Ran into him in Rudy's Guitar shop I think it was on 48th st. about 20-26 years ago, back when I spent a lot of spare time on that street. http://nypost.com/2012/07/24/the-day-the-music-died-on-48th-street/ Rudy's was out of my league. They were known for selling Paul Reed Smiths and Pensa-Suhrs, I think it was, really fancy customs, when Lou went in there, I was kinda surprised; I thought that was too nice and slick of a sound for Lou, but what the fek did I know lol. I got the 1981 re-release of the '54 Strat (a la Dave Gilmour) and the 1960 Gibson ES 330 at the great, great used guitar mecca that was aptly named, "We, Buy, Sell Trade Guitars." Musta played every Fender they had in that place, at some time or other. That's when $4-to-500 was a lot of money for a used U.S. Strat. But going back to Lou, and dealing with a wayward teenage son now, well I thought the lyrics to Walk on the Wild side were no big deal in the 70s but they probably scared the shit out of our parents. And I went on to to play in bands, and see folk walk to all kinds of wild sides and beyond, and never make it back alive. So now as a parent, yeah, you see it different. Interesting times. http://www.h2omen.com/Doggerel/StillLifewithGuitarandDog.jpg
