Capitals have the 3rd worst goal differential in the entire east (-37). How's it even possible to make the playoffs with that lol. Buffalo has +2, Ottawa -26.

The league is a mess with regards to the points. Yea, it’s been this way for years but it needs to be changed. Isles and Caps in is sort of a joke. Not to say they can’t steal a series but neither really earned it IMO.

Bring on the 3-2-1 point system or change OT/and dumb shootout point awarding.

    You're not.

And even comparing them to last year's team is a non-starter IMO.

Must be a mental thing for me personally. 10 or so years ago when this team made the playoffs (at any seed) I was filled with optimism. Not much these days. (Again, this likely goes deeper than just being a sports fan).

  3. Starting with division winner: Rangers should have it in the bag with 5 games left up 5 points (plus tiebreaker). Canes do have 4 easily winnable games left of their 5, while the Rangers have 3 in-division games and then MTL and Ottawa.

Say Canes get 8 points. Rangers would need 3 or 4. Lets say 2 wins in their last 5.

Thereafter, I see absolutely no easy first round matchups for anyone in the East.

Even teams like Detroit if they sneak in would be a tough play (as we saw the other night). Then you got potential Division rivals: PIT, PHL or Isles round 1? Ooof. We

saw what happened last playoffs vs. a bitter rival.

Maybe I’m not giving the Rangers enough credit but I’m worried.

For some reason, no matter the record, the Islanders always seem to approach a game with the Rangers as a MUST win at all costs. Rangers don't always take the same approach. However, Laviolette seems to have them, once again, pointing in the right direction. The rest is up to the players on the ice, will they show up ready to work?

This is the Isles Stanley cup (since they aren’t making the playoffs)

They always seem to play the Rangers with urgency

Rangers haven’t lost an outdoor game yet.

I’ll be throwing some money on the Isles to win today as a result.

win-win in the end for me.
