The problem is that they probably wants "legal hitting to hurt"  to be either reduced or removed altogether and if they have to essentially ban six foot seven players in order to do that then so be it.

The only way to get rid of legal hitting to hurt is to ban hitting altogether.  Not going to happen.

There is a big difference between hitting to hurt, and hitting to injure.

Every shift you go over the boards you should be hitting to hurt.  You want the opposition to think twice when they go into the corner to retrieve a puck, becuase they know they are going to be hurting back on the bench after their shift.  That's what needs done in playoff hockey.

Hitting to injure should never be tolerated.

  2. I would love to see Schneider and Miller stay as a pair, they have looked really good together.

Trouba has two more years on his contract after this one.  Got to figure Schneider gets a 2-year bridge deal this summer, then gets a long term deal once Trouba is off the books.

As for Jones, he has looked great.  His vision and decision making have really improved.  Damn shame the kid doesn't have the size.

  3. I have to believe that the offers Anaheim were receiving for Vatrano were well below what Verbeek is asking and they are planning on keeping him.  Why the hell would they use 1 of their 3 retension spots on Sam Carrick ($425,000 retained) if they would possibly need that spot to make a bigger deal, like one for Vatrano?

I get that they can use a third team to retain but that just makes any deal more expensive as assets have to go to the retaining team.

Unless the Rangers are dealing Lindgren and or Schneider or Lafrenière,  I don't see what Pitt would want from the Rangers that isn't from the prospect pool, which is supposedly off the table.

They have no use for Miller.  They aren’t trading Shesterkin..

I don't see the Rangers being in the running.

Maybe they'd take Trouba straight up.  😂

I'm sorry, but Zegras and Kakko aren't remotely in the same stratosphere. I get not wanting to "sell low" on Kakko — which is what I'm hinting at when I talk about the idea of him going for Vatrano + Henrique 🤮 — but the gap between that and Zegras is orders of magnitude.

Zegras, for all his faults, is a career 0.73 P/GP player with two 60+ point seasons under his belt (back-to-back). He scored 20+ goals in each of them.

Kakko is a 0.39 P/GP player who has never scored 20 goals and who's career high is 40 points in 82 games. He has seven goals in nearly 40 games this season — a 14- or 15-goal pace over 82 games (depending on how you round).

If the Rangers want Zegras, they're adding to Kakko to get him.

You are right, they aren't in the same league, that is why a first would have to go Anaheims way along with Kakko and Jones and probably another piece.

  6. Miller has had has struggles defensively this year but is still a guy I'd want to keep as his upside is undeniable.   Thinking a bit outside the box, why doesn't Lavy try Miller at RW for a few games and play Jones/Mackey on the third D pair for a bit?  Miller played forward as a kid and it was late in his development when he switched to D.  Who knows, maybe it is the answer to the lack of depth at RW while unlocking something in Miller, and it doesn't cost anything.

Just saw the Pitlick news too, so now that makes sense.

If I’m Laviolette, I give him a look up with Kreider and Mika, and move Wheeler down to the 3rd line. Have Goodrow center that line with Wheeler and Cuylle. Then move Bonino down in between Vesey and Brodzinski.

Would love to see this.  Mika and Kreids need someone that brings energy to their line.

  8. Looking back to the playoff series versus Carolina a couple of years ago, the guy that really stood out to me was Seth Jarvis.  I remember thinking at the time, “Why don’t we ever find players like this?”   The kid plays bigger than his size, has a nonstop motor, isn’t afraid to mix it up, and has some skill.  Reminds me of a young Brad Marchant.

Last nights game was a reminder of that.  Not that Jarvis had a standout game, but that the entire Carolina team buys into a team concept and play within their structure.  They don’t have the stars or names we have, but the team is better than the sum of its parts.

When will the Rangers have that swarming team mentality?   It’s never going to happen with Blake Wheeler on the top line, or on any line for that matter.  Maybe it’s just New York City.  NYC is built for stars, not a team mentality it seems.

I would love to see an injection of youthful energy with the call up of Othmann and Trivigno.  Even if they aren’t ready yet (and who knows if Trivigno will ever be), let’s wear opposing teams down with relentless forechecking and keep their stars off balance, exactly what was done to us by Carolina last night.

  9. I wonder if it’s just complacency on Igor’s part.

When he put up those incredible numbers two years ago, he had another young netminder nipping at his heels, wanting to be the starter.  Igor went out and proved every night the net belonged to him, and Georgiev wasn’t about to take it from him.

Now the last two seasons it’s been late 30’s goalies past their prime that have been backing up Igor.  While both Halak and Quick have played great for their age, there is no feeling that they are going to take the starting job.

Maybe Quick should get more games right now.  Put Igor on notice that however is playing the best gets the most ice time, be it forwards, defense, or even the goalies.

I have to admit, Quick is a hell of a lot more fun to watch with his old-school hybrid style play.

  10. There is no way Miller is going anywhere and no one is going to want a damaged Chytil.   I think you need to just ride with what you have in the system right now until a decision can be made on Chytil's availability this season.  If they shut him down for the year, that opens up some cap space.

I think the Sharks have two options at right wing that would be intriguing.  One of course is Duclair as we have all seen what he is capable of, although a lot of teams are going to be contacting the Sharks about his services.

The other is Kevin LeBanc.  Lebanc has been a healthy scratch multiple times this season and doesn't get along with Quinn.  He had 15 goals and 33 points last year on a very bad Sharks team but if you look back to 2018-19 when the Sharks had skill around him and the team finished 2nd in the Pacific, Lebanc had 17 goals and 56 points.  He has a cap hit of $4.7M but is a UFA after this season and is only 27 years old.

The Sharks are looking for defensemen so maybe a package of Robertson and a mid round pick would get you Lebanc, with the Sharks retaining 50% of his salary.

If he comes here and has a good season, he could be reupped at a reasonable price as he is a New York kid.
