These two things aren’t related. Going from Zibanejad, Strome, Chytil to Zibanejad, Chytil, Barron is a serious downgrade in every measurable way. You're replacing a highly-productive second-line center with a moderately productive third-line center and a moderately productive third-line center with an unproven, moderately productive AHL center.

If they're moving on from Strome, fine, but I'm absolutely in the market for another veteran center. Either in a trade, possibly with retention, or free agency.

Ok yes  preferably a faceoff specialist for those special faceoffs

I don't know how there are people still not giving Strome credit for the great player he's been. He may be off to a slow start this season but he is proven, and the all the time he produced last season without Panarin should be enough to dispel the "inflated by Panarin" argument.

I agree his trajectory is good and people underrate Chytil's production but at the same time Chytil just doesn't "feel" right a lot of the time, fails the eyeball test I guess. I think it's the position, he's not what you want at 3C and I'm not so sure about him as a 2C either so I'd like to see him on the wing.

He sucks at faceoffs. So chytil-goodrow-gauthier? Gotta try laf at rw1 i guess. Not like he’s particularly succeeding where he is.

didnt artie start slow even with strome? He just wasnt warm yet. Probably still hungover from the summer.

my main point again, isnt that i dont want to keep strome, its that i dont think we can afford to keep him. Our cap space is so tight after this season. Strome will command at least 50% of our $12 mil based on his success with panarin. Unless he takes a borderline embarassing team friendly deal, moving on from him is the only way to allow us wiggle room.

I feel it's a common theme where people look at Strome's numbers and say they're inflated by Panarin.

Another way to look at it is Panarin has admittedly enjoyed playing with Strome. Why would you not let your $11M investment feel heard?

So who do we ditch to pay strome what he will want and pick up a rw for zib and kreider?

There’ve been many great loves in my love. Pan can forge a new relationship if its the best option.

IMO Chytil is not the answer at C. W? Sign me up. If you ask me, I'm trading Chytil before Strome. Strome has proven his worth. The question is what's it going to cost to keep him?

Chytil's trajectory is really good. He's a 22 year old RFA. .5 ppg, +9 last year. He was wreaking havoc his first game back. Shouldve had 3 goals. They'll come. No Gauthier goal without his effort (he started it in the neutral zone.)

Strome is good, but his numbers are bloated. Too much gluten from the breadman. He's going to want at least 6m per, unless he takes a shocking team friendly deal. Would love to keep him but we can't afford him, and there are other centers who Panarin will make better for less $$. Chytil makes 2. something thru next season.

But... Goodrow... Just make the guy the 3rd line center already. Thats where he fits and is needed most.

Goodrow is punching above his weight at 1rw. 100% he's our 3rd line c, but we're going to need to trade Strome, move Chytil up, and trust laf can figure out the right side on the top line. He's a bright young boy, i think he can do it. Or rent a serious wing at the deadline.

  6. Aside from Trouba being our best big bodied defenseman by far, overlooked is Trouba's mentor effect on Miller, and hopefully soon Schneider. Guy brings a lot of "intangibles" in addition to tossing bodies, solid on the breakout, and joining the rush. How much could we have saved realistically on a more team friendly deal? We can live with his AAV.

Anyone know Leafs' depth? What's the third line like?
