Phil
The NHL is seeking financial concessions in the form of a 13 percent deferral on 2020-21 pay from players as an opening gambit in Return to Play negotiations for the 2020-21 season, multiple sources have told The Post. It is unclear how the NHLPA, which agreed to a 10 percent deferral in the six-year collective bargaining agreement extension agreed upon by the parties just over four months ago in early July, will respond. Escrow will be capped ? and set ? at 20 percent for the season. It is also unclear whether the request represents an ultimatum or if it is the board?s initial position for a negotiation apart from the season?s format and pandemic-related protocols. The original 10 percent deferral is due to be repaid in three equal installments (without interest) in October of 2022, 2023 and 2024. While the CBA Memo of Understanding effectively rules out prorating for the season, it does state: ?The parties also agree to continue discussions regarding the possibility of allowing Players and Clubs to negotiate additional deferrals on a case-by-case basis.? https://nypost.com/2020/11/17/nhl-already-wants-more-financial-concessions-from-players/

Dunny
Looking like it would have been a good year to ride out some bad contracts, as opposed to deffering the penalty to future years, where we may actually have a recognizable NHL season. josh
so, from 10 to 13%? what was escrow before? Does anyone pay attention to escrow? I'm poor and dont pay attention. If I had league min, I dont think i would either. This isnt the NBA.
Sod16
I don't see how playing in empty arenas can be viable in a gate league. The owners are going to take a huge bath, and if there is a season, the players need to be prepared to do the same.
Sharpshooter
Yeah, the NHL counts on its gate probably more than any league here. Going a full year without it could absolutely destroy some franchises, no? I think you can count on a season consisting of maybe no more than 60-62 games to make up for it, should the players not agree to the adjustments. BlairBettsBlocksEverything
if the season gets cancelled can we just keep the same draft order from this year for the next draft?
