Albatrosss
2nd in fighting majors. what else do you want from them?
CBrowningPI
It's just that as the team sits now, the two guys that would be willing to drop the gloves are ADA at 5'11", 180lbs and Lemieux, who's barely out of his rookie shorts. josh
Well they got rid of their top 2 fighters, McLeod and Pionk. (Smith 3rd) But they locked up Buch, who has 4 fights in the last 2 seasons. #MAGA #RedArmy
CBrowningPI
Iirc Pionk had the most awkward fights that just had his head in the other guys stomach and skated in a circle with his arms flapping. I still have a hard time understanding what I watched. Sent from my SM-N900T using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk

Albatrosss
Unless they can play, fighters arent needed today. #collusion
CBrowningPI
Yeah, it's at an all time low in todays game but I personally think it will never cease altogether. If it was ever to be removed, it would have a negative effect on the game itself. And what would be next, no checking? Hopefully it's a tradition that carries on. Dunny
Well, no traditions are safe in the current year, so while I hope you're right, it's really only a matter of time until it's gone
Future
Fighting will never go away entirely because cheap shots are never going to go away. But yea, enforcers are dead.
Gravesy
Iirc the two teams who played for the Stanley Cup had a grand total of 0 fighting majors in the playoffs. The role of fighting is certainly diminished. I'm not entirely sure removing it altogether would have much effect on the game at all.

Now, you need enforcers that can also play and pitch in a goal here and there.

Fans love it when a guy sticks up for their teammates or just simply giving some life to an otherwise lackluster game with no emotion. CBrowningPI
Definitely, a big hit can wake up the game. But it's got to be a biggie.
Phil
Doesn't a big hit do the same thing? For sure, but they're even rarer. The kind of hit you're talking about — like Campbell on Umberger — occurs like once a season.
