Phil Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Quote One is the fate of Laviolette’s predecessor. Gerard Gallant is a different presence than Laviolette and gave the Rangers a lot more latitude, so his success in Year One curdled quickly into cries for more coaching after an unsuccessful second season. Drury used the quick hook to dump Gallant and hire Laviolette, who demands more of his players. Yet here we are after a successful debut season, watching a bit of regression in Year Two. Quote Another factor is Laviolette’s coaching history. He has an amazing track record in his first season behind a new team’s bench, with a 279-136-51 record (.653 points percentage) in his first seasons. But his teams have a 219-155-57 record in his second season, a .574 point percentage. There’s a chance the message and method are wearing thin. Quote And third is the fate of Penguins coach Mike Sullivan, who was Drury’s first choice for coach in the 2021 offseason when he hired Gallant. If Sullivan is out of work when the 2024-25 season ends, don’t be surprised if the Rangers do everything they can to bring him to New York. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5956450/2024/11/29/rangers-nhl-shesterkin-trade-trouba/
RichieNextel305 Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Laviolette is not the problem. I blow this entire team sky high before I lose him. That’s not even so much a reflection on him as it is a knock on this core. This team has won absolutely nothing. Yet they get treated like the dynasty Yankees. In no way, shape or form should they let a very solid coach walk out the door because this baby shit core crapped the bed and tuned out another coach after Year 1. Switching the coach and retaining the core is not the answer. We’ve seen it a few times already and it got us no where. The issue is in the locker room. For once, these players need to wear it on the chin. You like living in NYC? Like the lifestyle? It’s good for your wife and her career? Too fucking bad. There’s the door. Good luck to you. 2
siddious Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I said it in the other thread.. we’ve had the same Discussion with 3 different coaches now. It ain’t the coach that’s the issue. 1 3
RichieNextel305 Posted November 29 Posted November 29 The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Firing Laviolette, by definition, is insanity. It shouldn’t even be an option. The issue isn’t him. It’s in the locker room. Some guys need to get going. Others need to be going out of here. Changes need to happen there. Not with Laviolette. Just insane. 1
Pete Posted November 29 Posted November 29 He only has a 3-year deal, and if they are going to rebuild... He's had a long career and like he took this job because he thought the team was closed, is he even going to be interested in sticking around for a reset?

Regardless, I am not firing him over this team and this core. Let him walk after the year if this isn’t what he’s interested in. But for now? No, this core needs to wear it on the chin.
RJWantsTheCup Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Team is horrific right now but Laviolette’s coaching and Housley’s should be taken into consideration. 1
Pete Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Just now, RJWantsTheCup said: Team is horrific right now but Laviolette’s coaching and Housley’s should be taken into consideration. Right, like it's not his fault they're this bad, but Trouba and Lindgren both over 20 minutes again tonight in a game that they only killed one penalty... 1 2
BrooksBurner Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Just wait til these guys figure out his 1-3-1! For real though, the Rangers need a reset (not a rebuild), and if Lavvy is on board with that I’d keep him. 1

Basically my only issue right now with him is this. For the love of all things Holy, I can’t figure out why Trouba is playing anything close to this.
Valriera Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Laviolette is not the problem, but also no he shouldn’t feel safe

Art20c Posted November 30 Posted November 30 (edited) I didn’t watch Philly game live cause I attended my son’s beer league game. Upon return home I turned into recorded rang-phyl game and holy shit! Rangers looked worse than beer league team especially in 1st. I’d say there is no fucking way pro nhl team even without any effort could look like bunch of armatures trying to play some hockey. For the rangers to play like beer league team, they do need to apply some effort. Is that possible that for who knows what reason team turned against lavi? Edited November 30 by Art20c
mbob Posted November 30 Posted November 30 We know it’s the locker room. My guess is Kreider/Mika had a falling out with say Troch/Bread and none of them respect the Captain. Then you have the diva goalie also. Just a guess
Scott Posted November 30 Posted November 30 (edited) Nobody should be safe from the top down. This is below whale shit stuff we're seeing now. Nobody in my opinion. I mean ffs I missed todays game but was dumb enough to put it on and just sat down to watch it a while ago and sure enough again in the first few minutes they blew chunks. They couldn't even be bothered showing up again. They're a complete embarrassment. No shots in how many minutes to start the game? How many goals in the first few mins against? Am enjoying Joe calling out Sam for his rose colored bs, same with Maloney having seen enough. Just puke worthy shit. Torts probably laughing underneath saying what a steaming pile of pussies over there. They really have become a disgrace and a bigger one as time goes on. Edited November 30 by Scott
deejaid Posted November 30 Posted November 30 I think Laviolette is safe because Drury realizes it is the players not the coach, and who are you getting at this point of the season? Although, I’d love to see Larry Robinson coach this team. A hard nose sob that would demand respect in the locker room and could also teach these Rangers defensemen quite a few things.

Just a guess Despite the constant barrage of high danger chances he’s forced to face from a team that thinks defense is not a requirement I don’t think I’ve seen him act like a diva on the ice. Even Hank would visibly be yelling at defenseman during games 1

That’s where my statement is rooted.
-ERIK- Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Safe for now but if he keeps relying on Zib , Smith ,Trouba, lindgren and more vets while the team keep losing it could get interesting, especially cause most of the young guys are playing really good .
