Weekes isn’t someone who posts bullshit. And he’s as in-the-know as just about anyone. As the saying goes, where there is smoke, there’s often fire.

Lets see if this has any substance. But figured it should be shared here.

Appreciate the new thread, @RichieNextel305. I'm gonna close the other one, as it's become a monster.

That said, I'll say in this one the same thing I have in the other: it's still too much money for a goalie. Even $11 million per was. I'm going to despise this deal before the ink is even dry on his signature.

They will sign this deal and Miller will find himself on a new team to accommodate it.

Ok by me. I think it's time to move him and Lindgren at this point.

Yea, I think Jones and Mancini can take care of their jobs. There will be growing pains but they won't be pain on the bottom line!

Closing the thread AND hating on the deal?

Drury is going to have to take anything under 12 at this point.   There's just no way the Rangers are better off with an 8M goalie and 4M of cap space than they are with Igor at 11.5.

That depends on whether you're thinking short-term or long-term.

Long-term the cap will increase making Igor's portion of it less crippling than Panarin's was in a frozen cap environment.

Also, the Ranger's situation is not so rosy moving forward no matter what.  They have a lot of older players who are finally being joined by good young players but that's not going to matter a lot when the older guys drop out.

Laf, Fox and Cuylle get a lot of help right now from the guys soon to be (or already) in decline.

I don't disagree with this, however I don't think you win by making your goalie the highest paid player and building out from there.

History has shown You're more likely to win by building a great team that doesn't need elite goaltending, just capable goaltending.

The choice may well be whether to stay highly competitive with Igor or drop down a notch with Quick (who 100% will stick around if he sees the opportunity) and a replacement goalie for a couple of seasons.

We can talk about building that team that doesn't need Igor and high-level Quick at this point but that's all it is: talk.

I want to keep him...but it can't hurt to let Ego Checksterkin to sit a few games and let Quick hold it down. Quick can't handle 55 or 60 games a year but he is great in his current role.

I know you can't really pin one game the guy, but watching him against Buffalo sure doesn't make me any more comfortable paying him all that green!!  He was fucking terrible!

I was listening to Sam and Joe saying how much the Rangers rely on goaltending, and some people may think that's a good reason to sign the guy for that much.  I gotta tell you I feel THE DIRECT OPPOSITE ON THAT!  I think that's the exact reason why we SHOULDN'T SIGN a goalie for that much!!!

This is Hank 2.0 and I fucking hate seeing it again!

DON'T FUCKING DO IT!

Thank you, my rant for this thread is complete!

Vince had Mike Rupp on the podcast and they were discussing Igor. There was a lot of nuance around the discussion, but basically Rupp had 2 points:

  1. Brodeur made 5 million a year and got a whole bunch of flack from the PA about not doing a good enough job of setting the market, and he had a lot more success than Igor. Igor is basically signaling that he is not worried about winning as much as he is worried about getting paid.
  2. If you're paying your goalie that much money, It's because he's covering up a lot of flaws, and you're never going to win that way anyway. It's better to fix the wound then pay the Band-Aid that will eventually come off in the playoffs.

Reason #71265371352735 why I love Rupp'er!  Say what you want about "Fatso, but the guy was a team first player.

We all see the flaws in this team....Igor, as much as he's been a strength, may very well end up being the cash cow that puts this team in the shitter for the next 6-8 years.  I'm not looking forward to this at all!

The bolded above is 100% where I'm at!

I think we need a goalie like Shesty if we're going to have someone like Zib for the next 6 years with his salary and performance

Unfortunately you're only likely to get this performance out of Igor for another 3 or 4 years. The data suggests his current level is unsustainable and when goalies fall off, They fall off harder and faster than skaters.

But Shesty is elite.  He may have a lot more left at a later age than any average goalie.  We have to trust the data but you just never know

But you're always going to be paying him to be elite, when he's no longer elite.

Simply put this contract as a payment for past performance, and I'm not interested in that.

RUN...Run Hard...Run Fast!!!

I really don't even want him here after this year.  I think we'll build a better TEAM without him!
