It would be a steal year 1. I don't know why he would sign at this price, but I won't complain about it that's for sure.

This.

The way this market is going, this is an $8–8.5 million player. They're shaving off around a million bucks with this deal. It's great.

Why not 8 years?

There was a report a day or two ago from Friedman, I think, that Laf didn't necessarily want it. Would have taken him to age 31. This would take him to 30.

  • Thanks 1

I get the price but not the term. I could see him doing 4 years but not one that takes him to the wrong side of his prime. He must be assuming the cap goes up 20m within the next 7 years where the normal for a superstar is closer to 14m rather than 10-11m

Last comment doesn’t make sense. How much more could that have added? Like half a mill per = ~12 mill more in total value? Cant swing that to get the 8th year? I think the no 8th year was probably just Lafreniere and his agent wanting to time his UFA age better.

That's still a lot of Bakers Dozens of donuts!!!  Good for him, he's clearly picked his game up to a place I wasn't sure he would ever reach. He should be sure to buy Bread several dinners over this and next season.
