I’ve been meaning to ask this but it just came up in conversation and it needs to be asked.

Monday, December 23rd, we have a game in NJ against the Devils. That starts at 1pm. On a Monday…

Can someone explain this to me? Why? Is this an error? Why in the world would they schedule a week day game? Let alone, a rivalry week day game.

Just absolutely absurd.

I get that. But I mean, still. Only time I can remember seeing these types of games is on Columbus Day, which is a Federal Holiday, and on Black Friday. The Rangers and Devils have played plenty on the 23rd, or right before or after Christmas. Why are they rocking the boat and not just making this a normal night game that everyone can go to? Just fucking crazy that they would do this IMO.

I think this year is a little bit different specifically because the 23rd is on a Monday right after the weekend.

It essentially is like a Monday federal holiday this year. I don't mind the NHL being proactive about this. They have the Leafs playing st 2pm as well.

I just think they're going to be assuming a lot of people will be off. It's a safe bet - as Keith said, schools are out so anyone with kids will most likely be off.

I got a kid, my wife and I won't be off.

CBA provision on Christmas break may have something to do with it.  In event, with all the people taking off that week it won't be a problem puttng fannies in the seats.

Actually NYC Public School is not off that day.  They start their winter break on Tuesday, Dec. 24th.

Yes, but let's be real here — no one will be in school then.

That's kind of insane. It's one day. Just give it to the kids, ffs.

It's irrelevant to the question in the OP, the game is in New Jersey lol.

School districts get state aid every day a child is in a school seat. I’d imagine one day equates to considerable funding.
