If Drury is even considering moving on from Shesterkin, he should be on the phone with Nashville right now.

If that's the case, it means Shesterkin is getting dealt first, because the moment you acquire this player, who has no intention of playing in the AHL, you signal to the world that Shesterkin is on the block. Leverage evaporates.

Most likely. Maybe this is the kind of goalie option who needed to be available to take that plunge.

The question is what does Askarov cost, and what can the Rangers get for a pending UFA Shesterkin?

Preds rumored to have wanted 2 first rounders and a high-end prospect, plus a 4th asset for Saros. Let's assume the ask is half that for Askarov...

You're probably looking at a first and Othmann.

I think the general consensus is that the Rangers are going to re-sign Shesterkin. To be honest, we already are at the “too far down the road” point with him and free agency. If they had no plans to, he should have and likely would have been dealt this summer. I think we just have to hope and pray there’s wiggle room with the AAV.

As for realistic options for Askarov, there are too many to count. Plenty of contenders too. Just a matter of what teams can offer up to Nashville.

While that isn't too unreasonable a price, @Phil's point on Shesterkin, what we'd want for Shesterkin, and the Preds failure to trade Saros at that price makes me think this is an unlikely match for the Rangers.

This absolutely screams Kings to me, though. Kuemper's salary is negotiable in many ways, there's not a "goalie of the future" there (Portillo will be perfectly cromulent, but when you can swing for an elite prospect, go for it), and they have the assets.

When was the last time a goalie got dealt for multiple 1sts and a high end prospect?

I completely forgot about the Kings. Makes total sense.

I don't know, and I don't care?

I simply noted what Nashville was asking for with Saros, and what it would look like for the Rangers.

A 1st and a good forward prospect drafted 16th overall seems like an unrealistic ask for a goalie taken 11th overall. I also don’t know what an ask for a proven excellent goalie in Saros has to do with what an ask for a prospect goalie would be. Don’t see the connection there at all. Probably because there isn’t one.

Agreed with @RichieNextel305 though. I was just having fun at the notion. Probably too late to make this kind of move. It would be a complete rug pull. Imagine Laviolette’s face seeing his star goalie, and only chance at winning anything, traded and replaced by a rookie right before preseason starts. Lol.

You're talking about one of the top goalie prospects in the world being traded for a guy who right now projects to be a middle 6 complimentary winger who's just as likely to end up a third liner as he is a second liner.

I don't see a connection between where either player was drafted years ago and how that impacts their trade value today, probably because there isn't one.

I don't see a connection between where each player was drafted when you're talking about one of the top goaltending prospects in the world versus a middle six left wing when the Rangers are stacked with left wings.

Probably because there isn't one.
