BlairBettsBlocksEverything
Stolen from a Reddit thread the ice cream sandwich is one of the GOATs of the ice cream world. But despite being a great reliable ice cream, it’s not a flashy one. No bells and whistles. Just a solid, dependable ice cream that gets the job done and delivers results. So who is the Ice Cream Sandwich of Rangers hockey?

Valriera
Stepan the pick for me, because the way he got it done was not only not flashy, but actively unexciting and boring most of the time, yet he still did in fact get it done a lot for the team

Sod16
I'm thinking Fast as the archtype. It's hard to define this because you start getting into players who were really stars, like Graves and McDonaugh, who belong in a different category. Those long of tooth may remember Bruce MacGregor. You shouldn’t be polling your friends. What would their spouses say?
RangersIn7
I only go back to the late-80’s. Guys I saw that come to mind: Nemchinov Beukeboom Jay Wells I guess Graves, Callahan, Girardi, McD as well. But then you’re talking about players who were All-Stars, team Captains, or had pretty high finishes in voting for major awards, so does that invalidate things some? Graves had a 50 goal season, two top-5 seasons in Selke voting, and was an all-star. McDonagh was a Captain. Callahan was a Captain and had a top-5 Selke season. Girardi had a top-5 or 6 season in Norris voting. Do those things push them above the category of “no flash, bells, or whistles?”

Br4d
I think I'm going to go with Anders Hedberg. Nice shot but not spectacular. Good defensively but not a Selke candidate. Hard worker.

There's a reason why people chose to replace those horrible crumbly cardboard chocolate slabs with chocolate chip cookies and make the far superior Chipwich. 1
LindG1000
As for the Ranger that most reminds me of a thing that's supposed to be great, but isn't as good as you hoped and kind of falls apart as you go...the answer is Kaapo Kakko.

It might be argued that McD was a star, but I don't think he really was. Just a solid and steady defenseman, only surpassed 40 points once. Graves definitely was not a star, mostly a 20G guy who hit 30 a couple times and one magical season of 52. Otherwise just a solid meat and potatoes middle 6 guy. For context, in his best years of scoring 65+ points, Messier was around 85-90. Edited August 12 by Pete

Morphinity 2.0
How can it not be Kreider? He's going to wind up as the greatest Rangers goal scorer, but he's probably 5th or 6th on the list of the team's star players at any given moment.
