Jeff Marek Gone From Sportsnet

Quote

Jeff Marek’s time both on television and radio for Sportsnet has come to an end.

Daily Hive can confirm a report that Marek’s time with Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada has come to an end.

“Jeff Marek is no longer with Sportsnet,” a Sportsnet spokesperson told Daily Hive this morning.

Sports media expert Jonah Sigel was on this first, reporting this morning that Jeff Marek had parted ways with Sportsnet for “unconfirmed draft reasons.”

“Details are scarce, but multiple sources tell me that for unconfirmed draft reasons, Jeff Marek will likely be no longer performing duties at Sportsnet hockey,” Sigel wrote on X. “Details to follow. This would appear to include his podcast duties too.

“There is a ton of speculation as to the cause of the apparent separation, however all we can confirm is he was at [the] draft and then he wasn’t. Hasn’t been heard from since and told most likely won’t be back either.”

Something definitely went down.

I've had Rogers as a mega client a few times in my career. They're garbage. Really hard to find good people there at the corporate level.

Maybe, yeah, but this also came abruptly. He apparently worked day one of the draft and abruptly caught a red eye per Friedman.

Apparently he was always going to be on a red eye, that was always the plan.

Fair enough. It's still pretty abrupt, but you could definitely be right. They paid through the nose for the NHL's rights, so it's completely plausible they're balking at re-signing any of their most expensive talent.

Hopefully ESPN will grab him

That's my hope. It would be a huge get for them, and would give them an instantly credible new full-time host to replace Levy.

Such a stupid move.

You covered Shane Pinto...what did you think would happen?

its a sickness.  An addiction much like drugs.  I have a family member with this issue.  And now with all the online betting its even worse.

He wasn't gambling.

First round draft pick bets were locked 24 hours before the draft.

He was sharing the draft picks with a buddy of his who was trying to score points on Twitter by posting as if he was some kind of insider.

He never engaged in any illegal activity.

Could it be that someone else was placing bets in his stead?

There was no betting involved. He was sharing the pics a few minutes before the player was drafted, betting had closed by then. He didn't even know the pics until then, broadcasters are given the pics minutes beforehand to create graphics packages

That’s so stupid. And pointless.

Sucks. I really enjoyed Mareks show.

It's especially stupid if one of your competitors is just gonna scoop him up and give him a contract? Why even part ways with him? Could have probably disciplined him in other ways.

He'd been on rocky ground with the NHL and SportsNet for some time over various shenanigans.

SportsNet is also apparently over hockey and they're trying to cut costs and might not even rebid for the rights.
