True. But nobody really cares how well he "leads" because he's not very good and makes too much.

That said, it's almost like no one cares about the Mark Messier leadership award, either.

It’s not that no one cares, per se.

Its just that those 2 other things take away from it.

His intangibles are real and impactful and can make a difference.

Just not enough to make up for that giant cap hit and his basically average play.

I feel like we're saying the same thing, you're just putting a nicer spin on it.

Trouba is a 3rd pairing defender making 8 mill AAV. He better be a combo of Jim Jones and Billy Graham in the room for that kind of money.

Trouba sucks, this award is meaningless and it's a joke that he won it. There.

Trouba is basically an average NHL defenseman.
He has games where he’s very impactful.

He has games where he’s absolutely terrible.

Most nights, he’s average.

All accurate. Average at best is probably the best way to put it. lol Overall disappointing. We're not getting the guy we paid for consistently, even though he is kind of overpaid anyway. But still, I expected better from the player regardless.

He’s always been overpaid.

And was always going to be.

By how much was always the question.

$8 million D-men need to be minute eating players who put up points and play to a consistently high level in all situations, vs and with top players.

Hes not that.

That contract SHOULD have come in at around $6 million or a shade above.

In reality, he’s actually worth less than that.

Gorton just went too high when he had all the negotiating leverage.

That trade/contract alone was enough to me to have him fired. lol

Maybe its because I'm just being more critical- but the 1st couple years when the Trouba Train would crush people I'm not sure I noticed the chicken wings up as much..  Even when he KO's Sid and Jarvis a coupe years back, those were very legal hits.. He's had a few more questionable ones of late- He's lucky he didn't deliver that Necas hit, he'd have been sitting for a bunch of games after the funeral

The award winner is selected personally by Messier and presented since 2007 to a player who "exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season and who plays a leading role in his community growing the game of hockey."

How about the entire team step up?? Maybe if every shift skated hard for the entire 60 minutes puts in a full effort the Rangers won’t have anything to feel ashamed about. Do your shift boys, 35-40 seconds a shift —-whatever it is and let the next shift do the same. KISS method (John Davidson former announcer and goalie for the Rangers) Keep It Simple Stupid!

So…the two Petes might not like the answer

@Pete @Pistol Pete

I happy, I didn't think he had it in him.

Now we can trade Trouba.
