QUOTE(S) TO NOTE:

"They scored a couple real nice goals because they worked hard down low. When you can show good clips like that and show them that they work like that, it goes a long way with your team. I think the guys really looked at the way the kids played, and said, ‘You know what? They did some real good things.'"

Every time I see our lineup in a GDT I get pissed off. This team should be winning damn near every game with it, yet with what I’ve seen on the ice, they are a coin flip to even making it out of the first round.

Not to put the blame on Harpur, but I think the defense should stabilize quite a bit with Lindgren back and Mikkola stabilizing Schneider. They don’t completely make up for a lack of system, but you at least have a reliable enough defender on every pair. Schneider absolutely needs a babysitter and Harpur isn’t the guy.

My hope is that we’ll see more consistent effort throughout with a more stable defense.

I’m not sure Mikkola will stablize Schneider. Mikkola has looked better than he initially did, and has looked better than Harpur for a bit now (I didn’t think that was the case for a while post trade), but I honestly think it’s just what Fox does. He elevates. I’m not sold on Mikkola like everyone else seems to be.

I disagree and the stats back it up. Mikkola has been a steady presence and has been key in breaking up plays. Mikkola's ability to hold the line should complement Schneider's complete willingness to give it up. Removing Harpur from the equation is addition by subtraction based on how much offense he actually ends up providing the opposing team.

Agreed. There is no tangible difference between the two.

Can you filter these for when Mikkola has not been paired with Fox?

Then the stats don't back it up. It's half the data. Schneider might feel better about holding the line were he paired with a Norris defenseman.

If I remember correctly Schneider looked damn good paired with Lindgren when Fox was out last year.
