  • Phil changed the title to [RS] (#76) Rangers at Buffalo Sabres — Kane and Gallant Are Riding in a Cab — Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before. ...

I think last night needed to happen. A light wake up call to show this team they need to start games better. Even the Columbus game they didn’t seem ready right off the bat.  I think they’ll be ready tonight. I’m expecting a really fast first 10 minutes or so.

Also , Buffalo, while much improved, doesn’t have the pace that the Devils do. A guy like Harpur won’t look quite as bad this game as he did yesterday.

OK, but the problem is, Buffalo isn't a playoff team. Bouncing back is great, but the Devils are likely their first round opponent and everyone knew it going into that game. It was by every measure a "statement game" and they made about the poorest statement they could.

Last night happens far to often whenever the Devils, or Islanders are the opponents. And the records for either team has shown that it doesn't matter, because they always seem to show up ready to beat the Rangers. As for the Rangers, they almost always look as if they'd rather be anywhere else than on the ice. And it's not the coaching, because they have a history of playing like this no matter who is behind the bench. You want to take a night off (which you shouldn't)? Then take that night off against anybody other than the Devils or Islanders. Any head coach at the NHL level, should not have to motivate his players to go to work. You're not going to win them all, but you won't win any of the games where you fail to show up.

And get ready for Buffalo, because they're another New York team that almost always plays the Rangers tough.

Yeah, we should put a pause on any juju until playoffs.

These games don't matter.

Speaking of... what the hell is our playoff theme this year? I'm gonna open a new thread.

Now that yesterdays loss is done I agree, our spot is pretty locked. Now staying healthy is all that matters.

Yes sir, exactly right. They shit the bed, that was the statement. Loud and clear.

It'd be nice to rest some players for a game or 2, to head into the playoffs rested and healthy.

Fox, Motte, Kane, Kreider and Kakko all look a bit gassed and worn out as it is. The playoffs are going to put some stress on them that they really don't need.

Drury and the Rangers really fucked themselves by not putting Lindgren on IR to save some cap space for depth pieces to finish the season and to stack the roster for an inevitable injury to someone important. Hope you all like Tim Gettinger...
