Sharpshooter
Maybe third time's the charm. They could be good quickly if Bettman sucks their dick like he did Vegas and as he's known to do for teams he wants to do well. jsm7302
Big hockey market in the Hotlanta? Thrashers had a decent logo but some crazy ugly threads. Woof. You'd think Wisconsin would be a good market. Or with the population boom in the area....Charlotte would be a good idea. siddious
The bigger question is… do we need another hockey team? 1
Cash or Czech
At least if we add more teams and keep the playoff format the same, less than half the league makes it? Also more teams to dump cap on to avoid salary cap constraints Edited March 4, 2023 by Cash or Czech
BrooksBurner
There ain't enough white people in Hotlanta to support hockey. Stop. Please.
Sod16
There are too many teams as it is. Your chances of seeing a cup in your lifetime isn't good (ask folks in Vancouver, Buffalo and Toronto). Of course, moving existing teams is now out of the question when you can charge big expansion fees. Adding a 33rd team would do nothing to improve the overall TV footprint. There are going to be about 6-8 legitimate cup contenders in a given year, whether you have 12 teams or 60 overall. The more teams you have, the higher the portion that will be non-contenders, and in time, interest in them will wane. Another round of playoffs, finals close to the 4th of July when casual fans don't care about hockey. Burnt out players getting ready for another training camp before their batter bodies can heel. The Yotes should go to a new spot...Not Atlanta either! Flames bailed and Thrashers flew the coop...this one won't last either! Houston is the best destination for them, like mentioned a few times before. 1

They can't support a team fiscally. There's no suites to be sold in Quebec. Not that I agree with Atlanta and Houston, either. League is already too big. Over expansion has depleted the product. Sharpshooter
I'm fine with Houston, but Atlanta again? In any case, the 32 teams we have now is more than enough. Sports is getting absurd.

This is the absolute max amount of teams there should be. As has been said, move franchises, don't add.

You guys really have got to let this go. If any Canadian city is ever getting another team, it's a second team in Toronto, not Quebec City, which has a population density even smaller than Winnipeg, and an infantile corporate footprint. The NHL is a business. If you want to see Nordiques jerseys that bad, beg the Avalanche to wear them as a throwback. That's about as close as you'll ever get to that franchise returning. If the NHL is set on expansion, the cities they're looking at in Atlanta and Houston make infinitely more sense, especially given the fact that expansion fees are likely to hit $750 million per franchise. Houston has the fourth-highest population in the entire U.S. and Atlanta is the corporate home of Coca-Cola, Delta, and CNN.

Move the Coyotes, and frankly I don't see the point of a forever terrible team in Columbus either. The league just doubles down on poor decisions.

I've played Devils Advocate with the Coyotes forever. I completely get what the League was/is after in that market, but it's been an abject failure for decades now, which has only snowballed their problems. The organization is just a gigantic money laundering scheme at this point. If the NHL is dead set on new markets, fine, but get the house in order first. In fact, I'd cut a deal with them — if they want the expansion fees (which of course they do), fine. They get one. The other is relocation, with the Coyotes being moved. BlairBettsBlocksEverything
With competent ownership, Atlanta could be a really good market. they managed to get a soccer team that averages almost 50k per game. There's a lot of transplants there, its a huge city. The MLS team really built it up at a grassroots level, made it a part of the local culture. There is no universe where the NHL should have more teams than the NFL.
Blue Heaven
b/c the NHL worked out in Atlanta the first 2 times? NHL doesnt need to expand. What they need to do is a better job at marketing the game, players, and better scheduling system.
