Tanner Jeannot for Vitali Kravtsov?

But the guy I would target, ahead of any of these options, is Nashville’s 25-year-old physical winger, Tanner Jeannot, a pending restricted free agent who will come with arbitration rights off an expiring contract worth an AAV of $800,000.

The Rangers’ cap situation next season makes it extremely difficult to trade for anyone with term on his contract, but this is an exception worth making. Jeannot is tough, he can play, he is a straight-line forechecker and net-driver and he would instantly make the Rangers a more formidable playoff opponent.

Jeannot may not be readily available, but as a bottom six that has 13 points (5-8) in 48 games following a 41-point (24-17) 2021-22, there must be an affordable price for him. How about Vitali Kravtsov in a one-for-one that would represent an exchange of styles? I envision Jeannot as part of the core. I do not envision that with Kravtsov. I envision this as a worthwhile conversation.

This would represent a step in addressing last year’s playoff deficiencies. That is what this year’s deadline is all about.

Jeannot is probably the new Josh Andersson, but I'm not gonna lie — I think I'd do this deal without a second thought.

I think he’d be a very good add.

Would Nashville move him though?

25. Good size. Some skill and scoring punch. Good defensively and one of their primary penalty killers. RFA with arb rights. 2 years from UFA. Cheap contract right now.

I’ve said I think they need 3 pieces.

Top-6 RW

Bottom pair LD

Bottom-6 forward.

If he’s the bottom-6 forward they add, that could be very good

Couple of problems I see here.

1. isn’t he another LW?  Less of a problem since he’s more bottom 6 than top 6 but still.

2. The real problem. How are we affording to re-up him?  He has arb rights and has a 24 goal 40 point season in his pocket for an arbiter to consider. At least Kravtsov doesn’t have the stats to command an impactful salary  bump.

Agreed and agreed.

The salary, more than the position, is the biggest issue. Specifically because, as you said, he's arbitration eligible. But on paper, I get it. I think there's solid logic to the "swap for styles" argument.

Would adding Jeannot block Cuylle going forward? They sound like similar players. Or is the idea to get multiple of these in the bottom 6?

Yes. Unless one of them is moving to the middle or the right.

Eliteprospects has Jeannot as a LW/RW, so assuming he has played the right side at some point either though it could have been all the way back in juniors.  If he could play the right side that would be even better b/c then you can slot him on the 3rd or 4th line.
