When you look at coaches salaries versus that of players and the amount of $ that a cup run is worth to a team, a raise to Trotz would have been a drop in the bucket. The fact that he finished the last year of his contract without an extension probably reflects that there were longstanding issues. Wash ownership made a killing during the team's cup run so giving a Mill or 2 raise to Trotz would've been, like you said, a drop in the bucket. Trotz was not MacLellan's choice nor did they gel personally. Reirden was MacLellan's guy and stayed as AC. They thought 2018 was the end of the string for Trotz and the were preparing to dump him - and then he won the Cup. He was hellaciously underpaid and had the option year. MacLellan wanted him out so they just went ahead with the plan and it was such a stupid move. Reirden lasted a year and they're already talking about "the curse of Barry Trotz" in DC.
