Also, that really even sure this counts as insider information as much as practical speculation. Drury is notoriously tight lipped.

They can push hard to resign him but they have to kick someone to the side of the road in order to fit both Strome and Copp. We have litigated this so many times and made so many different propositions. Idk how it gets done but if it does.....we will be looking good!

so far drury has done a lot of good things so we will see. I think there will be some hard decisions made this off-season but its hard to imagine he doesnt want to keep copp even if it means parting with someone young and promising in order to do that.

Yup. This is either "Strome is asking too much" or "Dreger bored".

 

It's also kind of a "well no shit" moment, as Copp has been an absolutely fantastic add for us.

If some how Drury can sign Copp & Strome and keep them combined under $10M with a few moves it could all work out.   I can get it to just around the 82.5 M cap, but that's without considering what I would get back for the guys I would have to move.

Thinking outside the box here, is it allowed to strike a deal with a team where they sign someone like Copp in UFA, and then have them trade him to us with retention? Is there a way to hold them to trading him or would it have to be a handshake deal that they could simply decide not to trade him after signing?

I wish the Rangers had some center depth down in the A so they can ship off Chytil and have possibly a greater chance of signing Strome and Copp.

If this was an actual leak, it would be done for negotiating with Strome - and probably wouldnt be Dreger. Poor fat Larry, someone made something up before he did.
