The Eichel trade burned them. No reason to make it when they did. Alex Tuch alone would have done more for them than Eichel. Given they are just on the outside, Tuch/Krebs could have been the difference.

 

But it could pay off next year when Eichel will be ready to go from day 1, and cobwebs shaken off.

And because of Eichel's contract (and many others, the cost of going all-in), there will be contracts and coaches falling to the sword.

 

BTW, thank you for Gallant and Reaves (team has not been the same), and hopefully we can take one of Smith or Marchessault off your hands (depending on our cap)

In all fairness, the Knights have a better winning % under DeBoer than they did Gallant. Gallant just had the magical first year.
