Already eaten by the extensions to Zibanejad and Fox. Every simulation I've run for next year includes the $1mil cap increase. Gonna be tight for us, and challenging to maintain any sort of depth.

..."In Drury We Trust"

Come on, Czech....Ya gotta believe!  LOL

No really, dude...it's gonna be a chore to get this shit straightened out for next season.  I don't envy Drury's job that awaits.  He's got a shit ton of things to accomplish.  I actually see him getting it done though.  I dunno how, but I have a sneaky feeling that he's going to make us proud in the off-season.

Roughly 12.5 mil to sign:

1st line RW (Vatrano)

3rd line RW (Copp)

2nd line Center (Strome)

What to do with Kakko and Blais?

Let the rest of em walk or not get qualified (Georgiev, Gauthier)

There are some real cap gymnastics that need to happen.

Which is why the probably move on from Chytil and Nemeth, which will give them an extra $4.8 million in cap space.

Youre not looking, fortunately, at huge increases for Kakko and Blais, I don’t believe.

But yeah… they need to find some money.

He'll get something done, but we're either gonna be short a 2C, a 2RW, or a 3C/W, We're also going to have a league minimum backup goalie. Probably need to pick between Strome, Copp, and Vatrano + Motte.

If they can somehow open some space, they can maybe keep 2 of those guys, plus Kakko and Blais.

Chytil and Nemeth are both basically goners if we want to keep two.

With the chemistry going on with these guys in the past week? Idk how you don't figure out how to keep both Vatrano and Copp. Im selling Nemeth and Chytil for pennies on the dollar just to clear contracts.

I’ll bring this unpopular point up too.. and I’ll preface it with I’m not advocating for it and I don’t think it’s a good idea, but…

Its possible they look at a guy like Lindgren and say we can move him and not only create another $3M in cap space but also get some cheap serviceable (or better) assets in return.

Not a good idea IMO. But I think it’s a possibility they maybe look at or at least discuss.

Can't do it with the left side with Nemeth moving out hypothetically. Reaves or Blais could be moved off season also to accommodate keeping Vatrano, Copp and Strome. Im down with any of those moves.

Capfriendly shows our cap hit next year is $70.7M. A cap of $82.5M puts our max space at $11.8M.

Nemeth will be tough to dump. It will probably cost a 2nd rounder or something ala Staal trade. I think the Rangers will (not necessarily what I would do):

Sign

Copp (~4.5M)

Kakko (~2.5M)

Blais (~1.5M)

Rooney (~1M)

6/7 D (~1M, Z Jones)

Backup G (~1M)

Total 11.5M

Dump

Strome

Vatrano

Motte

K-Z-Kakko

Panarin-Copp-Blais

Laf-Chytil-Goody

Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

Brodz

Lind-Fox

KAM-Trouba

Z Jones-Schneider

Nemeth

If they can find a taker for Nemeth, it allows them to find room for Motte - not Strome or Vatrano.

If they dump Nemeth and Chytil, it allows them to consider Vatrano, or a combination of Motte and more flexibility for something like a better backup G. It doesn’t make enough room for Strome. You would have to flex Goody at 3C in this scenario.

If they sign Strome (5.5-6M) instead of Copp, Nemeth needs to be gone to account for the difference.

Once you consider his replacement even on an ELC, it only saves $2M. And you can’t even replace Lindgren’s spot with an ELC expecting top pairing minutes.

Only see Lindgren moving if they get someone better…like Chychrun, and that only adds to the cap.

Signing Rooney is redundant when Jonny Bro can do the same job which pops in 1 mil while moving on from Nemeth to allow Jones in and voila we can have Motte too.

We lose Vatrano and Strome but sacrifices must be made, I dont hate it. They sign Strome for 6 mil and it handcuffs the team; I just don't see it.

I'd rather keep Vatrano than Motte, bottom 6 role wouldn't kill him plus he's got some offensive punch for depth scoring. If I was a player and saw that Drury signed Reaves and Blais to contracts just to ship them out in one year especially Blais having to deal with a cheapshot season-ending injury, I would definitely push for more salary which would make the cap situation worse for the team.

I've got 5.59 left with this:

Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko (2.6)

Panarin - *Chytil - Blais (1.8)

Lafreniere - Brodz - Hunt

Goodrow - *** - Reaves

Lindgren - Fox

Miller - Trouba

Nemeth - Schneider

Lundkvist

Shesterkin

Garand

Even if you move out Chytil and Nemeth, that gets you another 1.5 + 1.3 (minus 1m for replacements).

Strome at 5.5. So you have 2.8 - 4 for 1 more roster "upgrade"

If moving Lindgren brings you back an NHL level LD on an ELC, you do it.

You have Miller, who is special.

I've liked Chytils game for a hot second recently but I'm not banking on him as 2c though. That 3rd line is ROUGH.

Panarin - Goodrow - Vatrano (3.5)

Mine is more of a depth chart than a roster. But they're massive holes. 3C and 2RW were big this season. Now you have 2C and 1/2RW spots to fill with no money.

And no, I'm not penciling in Goodrow as a top 3C. That's in case of emergency, only.
