There’ve been many great loves in my love. Pan can forge a new relationship if its the best option.

Easy to say, hard to do. Ask Jagr.

I've watched this team try and "upgrade" too many times, and let good players leave to keep or sign lesser players who were the shiny new toys.

I don't know if Chytil is the answer at 2C. Unless Morgan Barron is ready to be a mainstay for the bottom 6.

These two things aren’t related. Going from Zibanejad, Strome, Chytil to Zibanejad, Chytil, Barron is a serious downgrade in every measurable way. You're replacing a highly-productive second-line center with a moderately productive third-line center and a moderately productive third-line center with an unproven, moderately productive AHL center.

If they're moving on from Strome, fine, but I'm absolutely in the market for another veteran center. Either in a trade, possibly with retention, or free agency.

Yup, this is why I always say youth isn't a skill. I don't care that Chytil is 22, or even that Strome is 28. The story might be different if Strome were 38. But as it stands, the evidence is clear as day that Chytil is a marginal center and Strome is a highly-productive one with natural chemistry with Panarin. Of the two, I have high confidence in the ability to be just as good next season in exactly one of them.

Another thought, i can see rooney at 3c, let barron cut his teeth on the 4th.

I get that penny-pinching like this is going to be a factor in constructing the Rangers' roster going forward, but that's not a reason to gaslight ourselves. Kevin Rooney has a career high 14 points in 54 games. He's a rock solid fourth-line player. There's scant evidence to suggest he's capable of more.

Agree. I'd give Baron the 3C minutes over Rooney, TBH

I don’t buy that strome is going anywhere but let’s pretend he is for this.

If he is, then we are going to need to find a 2c and we don’t have one in the organization. It’s not chytil. I think you trade chytil and a defenseman for someone who plays that role very well and who is under some control at around 6 and you bank on barron and goodrow at 3c, the former who will need a shot eventually and the latter who has proven he’s just fine in that role.

If the Canucks blow it up, I'd move multiple futures for Horvat. The team has a surplus of young defenders, and the Canucks have a shit core and fuck all coming. Make the call between Robertson and Schneider as to who you want and move the other one in this deal.

I’d love Horvat but think Miller makes more sense. More diverse player, should be able to get Canucks to retain some with Miller (don’t think they would with Horvat). I’d also imagine Horvat will be looking for a bigger contract when due, bc of his age, pricing himself out fin NY

And we know Miller can play in NY.

Yah that’s the right line I think. We have a lot of pieces to fill any hole but 2c so we shouldn’t be shy to move them for that if we have to

Would love Miller here. He’s got it all-snarl, toughness, pushback, and talent.

I'd love Horvat, but he'd be making what we'd want to pay Strome,  and is coming up on UFA in 23/24.

Ok yes  preferably a faceoff specialist for those special faceoffs

It's the sort of thing that happens in a cap league quite frequently.

I'm open to trading Lundquist and Hajek for JT.  It's only fair.

Getting capped out, yes. Intentionally making your team worse, no.

Even teams who lose important players do their best to replace them.

Miller makes more sense to me that Horvat just because Miller is at the arch of his career where he might look for a lesser monetary deal (meaning not break the bank and accept what he is paid now) after next year in favor of security and on a team with cup aspirations.

I’d make the trade in a heartbeat to obtain him knowing he’s here next year at Stromes rate. Assuming we make the playoffs this year and see where we are talent wise, guys like him would look at us as a team with multiple windows over the next 5 years rather than a now or bust like the Islanders. I’d be in hard for him because he really would one of the only circle peg into circle hole when replacing Strome and actually be an upgrade without breaking the bank. Plus, you have this Year with Strome still here for a seriously balanced top 6 and holes filled.

Actually I don't see Miller taking less money at all, that's just my two cents.

I think you are more likely to see Strome take a reasonable deal. It would really come down to who you prefer as a player, and while I prefer Miller, I just don't see him taking that New York friendly deal the way Strome may.

Definitely possible. The lack of contract negotiations with Strome and Rangers so far is a concern. They of course could be saying one thing and actually negotiating in private but still.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's up with that. The guys wearing an A, but you're just going to let him walk at the end of the season?
