At least one win in Atlanta and they would have continued to control their destiny as far as winning the division.  Our two stoppers DeGrom and Scherzer had sub-par outings.  Mets fans are accustomed to late season swoons so are primed to complain - anything short of elimination by the Dodgers or Atlanta has to be viewed as another disappointment given the promise showed this season.

Seriously. They played at like a  .630 pace for the second half and the Braves were just otherworldly good. This isn't a chokejob.

Everyone can shit on the starting pitching issues but the offense really went AWOL large stretches the last 4-6 weeks of their season. Need to make the moves they DIDN'T make at the trade deadline in the offseason.

4-23 with runners in scoring position. Brutal.

Great response by Mets. Verlander is a freak even at his age. Sub 2 ERA, 18 wins? Not many people lose Jacob deGrom and then pivot to the reigning AL Cy Young winner.

Still need help back end of rotation. Walker just joined Philly. Bullpen needs help.

But they need to stop ignoring the lineup. Alonso, Marte, Lindor and McNeil are 4 elite level hitters. It’s a great start. But after that, there is no depth. It’s a big drop off. Need to improve the lineup big time, as it is what killed them down the stretch as much as anything else. Their lack of power scares me. You need some quick strike offense and there really is no power here.

I wonder if the Mets will wind up bringing back Bassitt after all? Right now it's basically Scherzer and Verlander and then pray. You might even be praying for those two given their ages. Max already fell apart late last season. Having said that, Verlander could probably wind up being more reliable than DeGrom at this point.

There were rumblings tonight before he signed in San Francisco that the Mets and Correa had been in close contact, and that Cohen is acknowledging the Mets are lacking a bit offensively. That makes me happy, because they are. All of this spending is nice and dandy, but their offense the second half of the season stunk. It came up small in big spots, and piled on runs in blowout games to make the stats look pretty. But the bottom line is that for a team spending the way they are, they need to address the lineup because it’s a major area of concern.

Again, you have 4-5 high level hitters in Marte, Lindor, Alonso, McNeil and now Nimmo being back. But Escobar was a dud most of last year, Canha is okay and I can live with in left, the Vogelbach/Ruf combo as a DH is in inexcusably horrible, and you are winning nothing with Nido being your starting catcher. Hopefully Alvarez gets the nod to start there, and they look to bring in another bat to DH. Maybe even JD Martinez?

If they where going to spend that mind of money ,they should of made a play for Turner, better offensive player that could patroll centerfield ,or infield .

Glad they didn't sign Correa ,we need outfielders ,maybe Ohtani
