Phil
The Islanders said Thursday they have ?submitted a comprehensive proposal to create a world-class sports and entertainment destination at Belmont Park.? The deadline to answer the state?s request for proposals is 2 p.m. The Islanders? group is labeled New York Arena Partners, LLC. It includes Sterling Project Development, which is controlled by the Wilpon family, the Mets owners, and Oak View Group, an arena development company backed by Madison Square Garden. In a statement, the Islanders said of their proposal, ?We look forward to discussing with the Empire State Development Corporation.? Sources say NYCFC, a professional soccer team that plays most home games at Yankee Stadium, and Blumenfeld Development Group also are expected to submit proposals to develop the land around Belmont Racetrack. http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/islanders-submit-bid-for-arena-at-belmont-park-1.14293712

sg3
Are the plans to build this new "Icelanders Homeless Arena" in the parking areas now occupied 364 days a year by new car dealer inventory? Hopefully they aren't planning to tear down the racetrack Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
SaveByRichter35
Gonna SUCK getting into and out of that arena with the traffic on the Cross Island Parkway.
NYR2711
I don't see a new arena being built there. Its so close to MSG and Barclays. They should look out at the old Kings Park or Pilgrim State areas. They are easily accessible and are where the real Islander Fans are. There are too many venues in the city, adding another arena won't help. The soccer stadium has a better shot IMO considering that there are no real soccer stadiums in the area. You can have more games and tournaments there as well and bring in more revenue IMO.
NYR2711
Gonna SUCK getting into and out of that arena with the traffic on the Cross Island Parkway. Yep, one and in and out. Traffic is a nightmare over there sometimes without anything going on.
Respecttheblue
IMO the biggest concentration of "real" Islander fans within easy traveling distance is most likely in Nassau near where they used to be. What a botch-up.
Blue Heaven
http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/islanders-submit-bid-for-arena-at-belmont-park-1.14293712 https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-28/it-s-dolans-versus-steinbrenners-in-quest-to-build-belmont-arena The New York Islanders and New York City Football Club each want to build a new arena at the site of Belmont racetrack, pitting two of New York’s richest team owners against each other to build what might be the city’s last all-new venue for decades. Part-owned by the Yankees, NYCFC is looking for an alternative to its current home at Yankee Stadium. In its proposal to develop Belmont Park, which is due at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Major League Soccer club describes a 26,000-seat facility and an area set aside for fans’ pregame activities, according to a person who had seen the plans. Joining the Islanders in the proposal is Oak View Group, whose investors include James Dolan’s Madison Square Garden Co., which owns the Knicks, Rangers and their namesake arena. NYCFC said it would submit a proposal in a partnership with the Related Cos., a real estate firm founded by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Giacomin
Gonna SUCK getting into and out of that arena with the traffic on the Cross Island Parkway. Gonna suck that there will be more event traffic to muck up the Cross-Island. That road is a mess every weekend now. That alone is a good reason for NYers to kill it. NYR2711 and Blue are right, they need to be on the Island. And the soccer team would probably thrive there too. Too bad these greedy asses can't get together and share in building a hockey-soccer sports complex. Who do you trust in business or life... the Wilpons? Dolan? Islndr Mgmt? Dolphin Mgmt? The other crooks and cons?
Future
They need to just fucking move to Seattle already. Same amount of hipsters as Brooklyn and already have an arena.
