Vacationing in Puerto Rico

We're thinking about booking a trip for our Anniversary this year (October), but know nothing about the area, like places to stay, what to see, etc. I just know my wife loves beaches and sun and all that jazz.

Any advice/suggestions from those of you who've been?

My dad went a few times, I'll ask him. I went once, but I was young and was just there for the clubs.

Old San Juan is supposed to be amazing. It's very safe if you stay in the city center. Like anywhere else in the world.

Anytime you leave the mainland US, it should be for an all-inclusive vaca where you don't have to leave the resort.

I went to Cabo and stayed at an all-inclusive and it was a huge mistake. So many local spots to eat and drink, and perfectly safe. It was probably safer than the LES of NYC.

All inclusive really depends on where you're going.

For example Cabo is known for its restaurants and excursions outside the resort. Cancun on the other hand, IMO I would stay on the resort for the most part and go with all inclusive.

Another example is we went to Punta Cana (Northeastern Dominican Republic, and out there its nothing but all inclusive resorts.

Simon you were in Fort Myers?

I was just down there last week, well actually Marco Island, a little south. Beautiful white beaches.

And yes I agree with Aruba, and Aruba of all my Caribbean experiences was my favorite. Bluest water and is far out of the hurricane zone.

I was in Puerto Rico twice, first time when I was like 12, stood outside of the hotel casino for hours b/c Charles Barkley was in there gambling. 2nd time was a year and a half ago on a cruise, didnt get off the ship.

I was in Turks and Caicos in October. Amazing. JetBlue is the only airline that flies direct, and its only a 3 hour flight. Good place for a quick getaway. It is very expensive there though, groceries (if you go to the supermarket), minimum of $100 for dinner each night at the restaurants, cabs (i took a cab to the supermarket that was seriously 5 minutes away and it was $20).

Yeah. Ft Myers beach. Thought the beaches were better than Miami

Oh yea, Miami is a dump compared to Ft Myers. And you don't get the shitty northeast crowd that goes down to be a part of the 'South Beach' scene, Ft Myers beach is just a nice clean family area with nicer beaches.

We joke a lot, but honestly when I'm in Florida I never go to Miami itself unless its for a sporting event or concert. Only beaches ill go to in South Florida are from Ft. Lauderdale and north. South beach is a complete waste of time.

I feel like Miami is a "dump" anyway. I don't care for it , at all.

Yeah, I was pretty sick of Miami area myself, that's why I decided to go some place different and picked SW Florida.

A friend on mine went on her honeymoon. She said it was beautiful but very boring, and very expensive. We're talking $150 breakfast tabs.

I really wanted to go to Tahiti on our honeymoon but it was $10000. Settled for Palm Island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I like boring when a vacay doesnt involve going to a music festival or sporting event. Sit and veg at the beach while having a rum punch sounds good to me.
