Never mentioned J. Moore on here until he was already with the Rangers.

Not really sure how that matters...He wasn't the steal of the Gaborik trade you said he was.

I'm saying you compared Moore to McD. Clearly similar traits don't make similar players.

Yes, did compare there skill sets....which are actually very similar. Look how many times the Rangers announcer confused Moore with McDonagh.
And hard to call me out on this one....I've been more often right then wrong on these things

Both left D, good skaters, one wears 17, the other 27. Kinda easy to confuse. I've heard them confuse Hagelin and Duclair.

    Good point.
But one thing to note, Moore and Mcd are about identical in skating styles......stickhandling.....it's the other 90% they are polar opposites.
Moore is a tryout stud. Comes into camp and can wow the coaches with his skills....1/2 through season wondering when any of that will start to show up in games.
I can only guess how skilled this kid probably looks in practice.

So true. He's just not a hockey player... Yet. He's young.

Noticed one thing last game, (I may be reaching).
3rd period McD gets rocked in corner. Two Flyers around puck, one gains full possession.
3rd Flyer in front of net with Moore.

It was ALL Moore could do to not go chase after what was almost a loose puck, (leaving man in front of net).
He stayed home, allowed other team possession from a terrible scoring angle, and picked up premium area of ice.

Not a big thing, but yet a big thing for someone like him.
What comes natural to a SAH, defenseman seems the opposite for him.

I've always liked this topic. You figure a guy like Stepan wasn't wowing anyone in any tryouts and had to just keep getting the job done time and again during games. A guy like Moore, who steps on the ice and looks world-class, has a long leash because of the tantalizing skill. I know we group the difference into that broad "hockey IQ" category but at what point does this become more of a factor in terms of scouting talent? Is it an impossible thing to accurately figure out because you have to watch so many games for a guy like Stepan to really gauge his value?

Starting to dominate. 8 points in his last 13 with top pairing mins. It's about that time with our D playing the way it is. Skjei and Graves could probably out-play Staal and Girardi at this point.

Thanks as always for the updates. When you said "top pairing mins" I tried to find the TOI/G stat for AHL players. I wanted to see how many minutes Ryan Graves was getting per night. But both hartfordwolfpack.com and ahl.com don't have that stat available. Any idea where, if at all, I can find it?

I think the AHL doesn't track it, which is super fucking annoying.

defintely promising. i was pleasantly surprised to see him play so well. i don't think there's going to be much time between now and when he's a full-blown roster player.
    MacKinnon > Stepan and Kreider?
    Barrie > Staal + 1st?
