To make things worse, those cup competitions often have clubs competing from different leagues. In Germany 2nd and 3rd Division also compete for the cup, as well as semi-professional clubs that qualified by winning regional-cups the year before.
It's often said to be "easier" to win the cup, cause you just have to win a few games instead of being good all year, which is also why Europeans often think Playoffs are unfair.

Arsenal have just signed a new kit deal worth over $175M, the board have afforded Wenger 140M to play with in the next transfer window, and it looks like we are set to begin with striker Yaya Sanogo from AJ Auxerre.

We aren't going to TOUCH Remy with the rape accusations going on right now. I could see us bringing in Bony and Cabaye though.

Yeah I saw the Sanogo rumor. I know that Wenger has money to spend, and he has had money to spend in the past too according to the board. If Jovetic or another 1st tier striker isn't brought in, I don't know how well we'll do (granted we fared alright towards the latter part of the season). We need to build around our decent midfield and wingers. A stud defender would also be nice. It just remains to be seen how much money Wenger is actually going to spend, not what he's allocated.

Scags, to make it even more simple: the Premier League is a table championship, so whoever finish at the top is champion. The League Cup and FA Cup are elimination tournaments, with brackets determined by draws and including teams from lower leagues than the Premier League.

A team not from the Premier League could win the FA Cup or League Cup.

I can make that easy too: the Champions League is the top continental tournament, the Europa League is the one below it. How many teams a country can send is determined through a formula that looks at how well a country's team have done over the last 10 years. So when German teams get far, more German teams are allowed in after a while.

Most countries give the winner of the domestic elimination tournament (like the FA Cup) a ticket to the Europa League, the winner of the table league gets Champions League and more teams get in to either league as a country's formula ranking gets better. So Spain, Germany, and England have more teams in than The Netherlands, where the league winner gets CL and the number CL goes to the pre-qualification tournament for the CL. In Belgium, who have a very low score, the champion only gets in to pre-qualifying for the CL and the number two, three and four get Europa League, albeit not all immediately and some through qualification.
