How to Make Back-Up List Not Sound Like Back-Up List

Wedding is this fall, and we've had a number of RSVP's come back no, which opens up those spots for other friends who didn't quite make the first "cut".

 

How the hell do I word the emails I'm sending to those folks to not make it sound like "hey, a bunch of our friends and family bailed ? wanna come in their place?"

Tell them you sent out the invitations in sets of 3 and one of the sets came back because your silly fiancee forgot to put stamps on them lol

Can't you just basically go along the route of "Sorry for the very late notice, but in all the confusion there were some people that didn't get their invitations at the right time. We wouldn't think of not having you at our wedding so when we realized the error, we fixed it as soon as possible. Please RSVP as soon as convenient"

We had about 350 people before we could cut the list, so we held an open reception. Anyone who wanted came for the late night shenanigans, which is the fun part anyways.

I would reiterate what Keirk said and anyone who would question you over a late invitation doesn't deserve to be there.
