    Looking for a new TV

Im looking for a new TV. Nothing top of the line since its going into a spare bedroom. Something like a 37 or 42 inch, 1080p. How is Sharp? Vizio? Any other suggestions?

I have a 32 inch Vizio I paid $300 for Christmas of 2010, works pretty fine for me, no problems with it at all.

PC Richards is having some sales if that helps ya.

Try to get something that's open box at bestbuy or any other big box store. Better quality models, sometimes for very cheap if they were already dropped for whatever reason. I bought a higher end Toshiba about 2 years ago that retailed for 550 that was marked down to 320 with sales + open box. Great TV, great color.

Make sure whatever you get it has the highest contrast ratio in your price range. a 37" tv wont play in "true" 1080p for one, so don't make that your top priority and contrast ratio is where you notice the picture most. A 42" tv with a very high spec'd contrast ratio that only resolves to 720p will always look better than a 1080p unit with a lower contrast ration.

Yeah, I only go for 120hz at this point. 60hz just doesn't look nearly as good.

PC Richard is where I saw the Sharp (42") for $399. I was looking at a Vizio (37") from Target for $379

    I'd rock this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-40...06-F7/16874085

The 1080p 120hz is gonna give you a great picture and it won't be outdated anytime soon, can play blu-ray to it's full capacity. Price is pretty sick for this type of tv.

Have to be careful about burning out the screen though.

Plasma's are cool, but you can't play video games on them.

    whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

i play my xbox on it all the time, its actually 10x better than an lcd for gaming. blacks are BLACK and the refresh rate is like 1000x faster than an LCD.

and yeah you need to watch out for burn in but you have to be an idiot to burn a plasma. not to mention most newer plasmas have safety features that help protect against it.

Maybe things have changed then. I had a plasma about 5 years ago and at the time my friend and I played an ass load of Madden and the score box in the corner and the bar at the bottom ended up burnt into the screen.

Vizio is actually made by one of the big companies, I believe its Sony, and is for stores like Walmart and Target. We have had a Vizio at work for like 3 or 4 years and it still works great. We usually have it on for most of the day, especially since someone is there 24 hours a day.
