... And I just looked outside and it's -12 Celsius, so I'm good on my chair for today.

Was asked by a client of mine on Friday if I was interested in a job they had open, which I was (pretty much my dream job) and he got all the right parties involved and asked me to come in on Monday morning at 8am and we would get all the interviews done in one shot. Did that and I thought it went really well, but I haven't heard anything yet which is really freaking me out. Under these circumstances I was expecting to hear back almost immediately or within the next 2 days

They said they were at the tail end of the interview process and want it figured out by the end of the week.

My thought process was that they probably interviewed a bunch of people and none of them stood out to them, then they thought of me and brought me in thinking that I would be a good fit since I know them well and how they operate. He wanted me to meet with all the people in one shot, so even though they said the end of the week, I thought I would at least hear something sooner

I read somewhere that it usually takes 56 days from first contact to first day at the new job.

    You have 51 days left.

    4 - 6 - 8 weeks, depending on level.

But that's based on when you learn of the opening (as in, Bob hands in his resignation - day 1) to when you fill (hire date of replacement).

56 days from first contact with a canddiate is way too long.

for my current job, there was about a 2.5-month gap between when I interviewed and when I started. But I think that's just govt. bureaucracy

I think first contact was resume submission.

My son who's 19 has been working at this summer camp for the last 3 years and I don't remember having to get a work permit.

Funny, I just heard that, too. I lost an important hire just last week because corporations are as nimble as Dylan McIlrath. HR/Talent guy said "47 days is the industry standard and I was going to turn it around in 45" like it was some kind of accomplishment and he shouldn't instantly be fired in to the sun.

I almost feel bad bashing public servants after watching these corporate geraniums in action.

WTF is a work permit? You need a permit to work as a 16 year old?
