Canada Wants 2022 Winter Olympics Out of China

TORONTO (AP) — Canada’s House of Commons voted Monday to declare that China is committing genocide against more than 1 million Uighurs in the western Xinjiang region but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Cabinet abstained from the vote.

The non-binding motion passed 266-0 as virtually all but Trudeau and his Cabinet voted for the measure that also called on the International Olympic Committee to move the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing.

A senior government official said declaring something in Parliament is not going to adequately get results in China and that work with international allies and partners is needed. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

On one hand, Canada has the moral high ground; China is a horrible human rights violator. But the reality is as with the 1980 boycott of the Moscow games, the only people who got hurt were the athletes who can never got that chance back.

Would Canada or the US pull out? And where would that leave players of other countries like Sweden, Russia, Finland?

What moral high ground do we have, we've herded all our indigenous peoples in to out-of-sight hovels and can't supply them drinking water. We also love the Chinese cash that floods this country and keeps it afloat. We're not an arbiter of anything.

I'm not sure much will actually come of this considering Trudeau is one of China's biggest ass kissers. They probably have all sorts of incriminating content on him or something.

It's not good if Canada pulls off Olympics that may be going to held in 2022. If this happens then maybe the relationship between Canada and China may be affected. I don't think soo that it is a good idea to pulling the Olympics off from china. What about your through guys?
