Im with you. This shit is getting annoying. I keep getting sick because its 70 one day and then blizzard the next. For me, its hard to dress for the weather because I work nights, and when I go in its warm where I can wear a tee shirt, but going home, I need a hoodie and jacket on. Im also not looking forward to this storm for Tuesday. We have a new supervisor in charge of us, and he doesn't want anyone calling in because they can't get in due to snow.

If we get snow Tuesday I'm going to stab so many people. Like at least 5 people.

About 4" of glop here. Already melting with sun shining.

Tuesday-Wednesday threat while big is all over the place on the models anything from snow to heavy rain to a miss out to sea depending on your weather model of choice.

    Stayed tuned.

    Parsley's Weather Forecast Thread

Legit, big-time threat for a major winter storm Tuesday-Wednesday time period....worst right now appears to be centered around Tuesday afternoon.

I'd say at this point all options are on the table as a storm forms off the Southeast coast and tracks northeast toward NYC/LI/southern New England. Models diverge on the final track of the storm. The implications will be huge.

With storms of this magnitude you always hear about the "inland track, coastal hugger track and the out to sea track". Right now most models are differing on something between a coastal hugger track vs a storm that stays off the coast but still close enough to impact the area.

The coastal hugger track would bring a period of heavy snow that then changes to rain as the storm get close to the region, especially along the coast. A track off the coast would produce a cold, snowier scenario but precipitation amounts would then be in question, especially inland where snow amount would diminish.

Honestly, 4 days out a blend of the two would be a major snow hit regionwide with the potential for 1-2 feet. Still plenty that can go wrong so we have to see which track looks more likely in the days ahead.

This model display shows double digit numbers (88, 91, etc). Those are single points for the center of low pressure (the winter storm) for multiple model runs for the same period (Tuesday). You can see some of the numbers are inland, more are over the ocean.

That is what meteorologist call the "spread between the models". This map actually shows the spread for just one of countless different models. Currently, the model depicted above is leaning toward an offshore track but the fact it shows some storm tracks inland indicates continued disagreement.

If we base things off recent history, storms have found a way to stay off the coast bringing the highest snow totals in major events to the coast, especially Long Island and New England (vs. interior locations). We'll see if that trend continues.

    One last map....

Top left map is the jet stream and steering wind flow in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Top right map is the surface low pressure track Monday-Wednesday (I added the arrows). You can see how the upper level winds are going to try and steer this storm right up or just off the Northeast coast Tuesday into Wednesday.

Still a few days out but we seem to be on the snowy side of the storm regardless. Question for us inland will be how far inland the heavy precip. gets. A coastal hugger track would crush us, something further off the coast would spare us the heaviest snows.

Again, looks like a Tuesday debacle if this occurs.

Parsley, with all due respect, fuck you.

Nah I am playing, thanks for keeping us informed as much as you do. May not always like the news but it is nice to know we can be prepared. You're a gentleman and a scholar.
