Landfall in the Keys. Next landfall looks aimed at the Naples + Marco Island area.

My brother just lost power in Miami Beach. Looks pretty nasty either though the eye is on the other coast.

The size of this storm has made itself known. Gusts 70-100 mph in the Miami area with flooding storm surge. Gusts even higher likely on the southwest coast as the eye makes landfall the next few hours.

Yeah, not a direct hit. Impactful from a surf/beach erosion/tidal flooding standpoint as it passes south/east. Winds and rain, not so much.

Central and eastern LI best chance of
Tropical storm conditions (40+ mph winds) for a period of time.

GFS is putting Maria almost hitting NC at 928 mbar 210 hours from now. If Jose dies the high pressure to the north will push Maria to the west for an East coast impact, maybe even cat 3 or higher if it hits the Outer Banks.

Went from a Cat 1 to a Cat 4 today. That was fast.

    Cat 5 now.

Pars - has there ever been a storm that has gathered strength this quickly? That's 70mph in a day!

I know a few have had similar increases, I think pressure level drops are what are used to determine true intensification. I'm not sure where this one stands. When all is said and done I'm sure a full report will be released.

Puerto Rico in real trouble with Maria. Need it to veer northeast or else San Juan will get crushed.

    Woof. That's crazy.

Though, Maria went from the lowest possible cat 1 to a cat 5.
