    Thanks Pars

I'm thinking 3 inches or less starting in early evening in NYC. Hoping it won't affect my LIRR trip from Little Neck to Penn to see NYR vs Newark DevilDogs.

    I'll check for your updates

    Parsley's Weather Forecast Thread

    Greetings,

As I mentioned last night a sneaky snow event is in the cards. Most of the week the models (for the most part) kept tomorrow's storm out to sea with minimal impact. Instead a track closer to the area will result in snow overspreading the area early Saturday. While this shouldn't be a blockbuster storm, it will be the first of the season with several inches for many.

The steadiest of snow will occur midday-afternoon hours Saturday. Snow will end early Saturday night.

Snow totals are always a tough call. Today for example part of the Deep South are seeing record snowfall when just yesterday the models were showing little, if any. I'd say a solid 2-5" for the area is a good bet. There could be a swath of 5-8" of snow somewhere across NJ, NYC, LI or CT. Too early to pinpoint that just yet.

I'll have another update later tonight or tomorrow morning.

In the storms wake, sun and wind are on tap Sunday.

I attached a few model depictions Saturday afternoon to give an idea of the scope of the event.

Pars, what is the chance that Long Island gets pounded on Thursday. I couldn't get a doctors appointment until Thursday afternoon, and I have a bad earache, really need to get to the doctor.

Maybe take some sudafed and ibuprofen until you see that doc?

    I heard L.I. might get 3"-6".
    Grrrr.
Have really had enough of this winter shit already. If I had the time and resources to go skiing I might feel differently -- but heck, it would be pretty hellishly cold in Vermont even.

Holding Parsley accountable for this weather until La Nina fesses up to the temperature crimes.

Im allergic to sedated and ibuprofen, it sucks. I have been taking tylenol and leave but they haven't been working. I tried getting into an ENT and everyone was booked up this week as well. Ive had enough of this winter as well. I also need wrist surgery, going at the end of March, so shoveling really sucks for me this year.

On the fence as of now, could be a massive gradient nearby. Models have no clue right now. 50 miles could separate 0 of snow from 18.

Further east (on LI) stands higher odds of big snows.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Latest discussion from the NWS....should be more clarity by tomorrow IMO.

At the Surface, low pressure develops off the Florida peninsula
and tracks towards Nova Scotia while rapidly intensifying
through Thursday. While some strength and track differences
remain, there continues to be growing consensus amongst the
models, taking the low near or just east of the 40/70 benchmark
Thursday afternoon. Overall, it appears it will be cold enough
for an all snow event with the best chance of 6 or more inches
of snow across eastern portions of Long Island and Connecticut.

Main question is what kind of shift in the track this storm
    takes
. Any shift to the west, would mean heavier snow for more
of the region. A shift to the east would mean less snow. This will
need to be watched over the next few model runs.

The other potential hazard with this storm will be strong
winds, forecast model blend is pointing to the potential for 30
to 40 mph winds along the coast Thu aft/eve. There is potential
for 45-50 mph gusts for eastern coastal areas, if closer NAM
track and stronger NAM wind field verifies.

Tight gradient somewhere near I-95 give or take 50 miles. Well see...

Funny how many coastal storms the past 5 or so years set the battle ground in the NYC Vicinity.

Should be better agreement by tomorrow.

    BOMB CYCLONE

"The disastrous 2017 hurricane season is over, but a massive storm is building in the Atlantic that’s going to act like a winter version of a hurricane. The massive low will have similar pressure as Superstorm Sandy and pack hurricane-force winds. Airlines are bracing for major impacts and releasing travel waivers to allow passengers with flexible plans the chance to change their flights for free."

Here was the latest forecasted snow map from the NWS prior to the midday model run. Tight gradient and if there is a shift 50-100 miles itd have a massive impact. For better or worse.
