Perhaps he didn’t know how hard it would be away from his newborn baby?

Perhaps he could have made this decision a bit earlier, like when he was sitting out the earlier games thinking.

The postgame two days ago he sounded aloof and even said it doesn’t feel like playoff hockey, said he’s just trying to have fun and results aren’t really that important right now. Just sounds like he knew he wasn’t really into it.

Perhaps he could have done.

Perhaps he wanted to give his team the best chance to win and decided he no longer could. So he was honest about it.

He's no doubt not the only player who feels this way, just the only one who has taken it to the extreme of not playing. A lot of players' equilibriums have been upset, and this will be apparent if they start the regular season in December and half of the players have essentially not played since March.

It will be interesting to see if this is the end for him in Boston. It could be a real turning point in his career or just a bump in the road. He can stay in shape working out with Lias.
