Peter Laviolette is Leading Candidate for Devils? Head Coaching Vacancy

Not a comment, more a general question. Why does the NHL just keep recycling the same old coaches? I know there are lots of accomplished, young NHL assistant coaches, or very good head coaches in the OHL & AHL that deserve a try. But it seems like it's well, we haven't tried this guy over here, so let's give him two or three years and then we'll try him over there. I would like to see some fresh, new ideas on the ice. Sorry for the rant!

This is exactly why I was excited for them to hire Quinn.

But it's a risk to hire new talent when so much is on the line. The risk for the Rangers was limited because they were horrible and planned on being horrible for the next couple of years. A team who needs to make the playoffs can't really take that risk because there's a lot of money on the line. Laviolette has had success almost everywhere he's been so he's a relatively safe bet.

That said, I don't know how Bruce Boudreau continues to get jobs. Or Pete DeBoer. Or really any of those kinds of guys who continually prove nothing.
