Bill Cosby, because I've seen him live three times and he is absolutely hysterical. Saw Craig Ferguson once too and he was a riot.

But for our generation, years from now, I think Lewis Black will be looked upon as the best. Still want to see him in person.

Louis C.K. is number one, but Jim Norton is a close number 2, along with Bill Burr and Robert Kelly. The problem with this list is that there are so many different types of comedians here that come from different era's. Hicks is amazing, and Pryor was one of the best, along with Carlin and Dangerfield. These guys helped shape comedy back in the 80's. I dont really consider Eddie Murphy a stand up any more, because he left it. At least Pryor was always doing stand up while he was making movies.

You and I would get along real well. Same sense of humor. Bill Burr is comedy! I have to look into Robert Kelly though.

Patton Oswalt is great too. Even Sinbad, he wasn't dirty but I used to love him when I was younger. Recently seen Patrice O'Neal as well. That was some funny effin stuff.

I can not stand a few of these - Robin Williams, Richard Pryor, Mitch Hedberg, George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield... ehl! I swear, people who like these guys grew up in a fucking cave.

Patrice is great as well. I also love Jim Jeffries, Otto and George, Brian Regan. Robert Kelly is hysterical, if you like Burr and cringe humor, you will love Kelly. This thread needs to be closed if anyone mentions Mencia or Dane Cook.

well in Mitch Hedberg's case, most of his popularity comes from old videos on youtube that people watch on their computers in their rooms (caves)

For back in the day Pryor and Carlin defined what comedy became today. I liked Dangerfeild for what he was, I wouldnt say he is the greatest, but he is among the top of all time. Never was a fan of Robin Williams or Mitch Hedberg. Kinison was a great stand up though.

Same with Bill Hicks. He is very funny, but very few people knew who he was. Shame his life ended before he could really become big.
