Pete
Who cares, that?s temporary. They could have gotten assets to help for the next decade.I have to think they either tested the trade market, or he's retiring.
Phil
4. Byfuglien has yet to resume skating, so it is extremely unlikely he returns this season. But, if he has any desire to play in the future, there’s going to be interest. There are obvious connections in Chicago (old organization), Florida (old coach) and Vegas (Kelly McCrimmon ran Brandon, where Byfuglien began his WHL career). Even teams without such clear relationships would wish to talk to him, too. There was a time during this process when the Jets wanted him to return with them, but the relationship soured as this continued. He’s a unique personality — I say that with respect — and there’s no certainty about what he’ll do. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-dustin-byfuglien-winnipeg-jets-contract/

Albatrosss
Rangers and lundqvist should just agree to terminate the contract too
LindG1000
Well that's one way to save cap space.

Pete
Why on earth should he give up $4.5M because the Rangers fucked up their goalie situation?
Bugg
He did not play at all this season. By the time next season starts( hopefully?maybe?perhaps?) he will be 35. And his trend numbers are all going down. At a loss what team is signing him in the wake of this mess, spare one, if they can get him cheap. Remember, this mess is going to hold down the cap number, so there is not going to be a mess of loose $ to sign players. And the cheap part, simply his ego won't allow for that. Let's assume team X, say the Illinois Ebonybirds signs him, and then falls out of contention by New Year's Day; nobody is trading for him, or at least not trading anything of value, for him. Suspect a few years hence, even with $60 million in the bank(a big if), he will regret shooting his way out of Winnipeg and leaving this cash on the table. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/byfugdu01.html As to Lundqvist, NOBODY with functioning grey matter(and this may be an issue with Byfuglien) leaves $4.5 million on the table out of the goodness of their heart. Especially not a guy with luxury homes on 2 continents and a wife.
