This has been an issue since day one. I've basically begged people to post threads. No one does. Almost every story, signing, trade, whatever is put up by me, and if it isn't, we don't talk about it. There's an entire league's worth of drama going on. We — as a forum — need to capitalize on it more often.

Yeah, I feel like forums are a dying breed anyway, but then I open HF and it's riddled with activity, so idk.

You're not wrong though, and I don't start threads, so...shit.

This may be world-breaking, but you know that the internet is littered with free porn, right?

Fuckin eh, right?

That’s a good point. What’s your stance on eliminating political threads here? Enquiring minds wanna know. Is it something the majority can’t live without? Like you told Simon about the internet being loaded with porn, same goes for political discussions. It’ll probably be better for everyone, just for the fact you can debate with millions of people instead of the same 14 guys for the last 10 years.

Forums are a dying breed, but we have one with sustained life. We probably won't grow tremendously beyond this, and that's OK. The key is still content. I've been beating this drum for what feels like years now. If something happens — some guy talks shit about another guy, a player gets hurt, demands a trade, someone goes on waivers, WHATEVER — post it. The worst possible thing that can happen is no one cares and it falls off. Big deal. The best thing that can happen is we actually have something to talk about that most of our base want to talk about, which isn't politics, but hockey.

I'd be open to the idea if it became clear that they were really nothing but a drag. I'm not sure that's actually true right now. I think having a section to talk about world events is valuable, at least on paper, so my initial reaction is "no," but all of this is clearly contingent on hockey — the thing we all share in common — remaining the dominant factor. The way I see it, if 60-70% of the conversation going on here was about hockey, this is a non-issue.

Like philly just said, when you come to the forum and every new thread is a political one, we've lost the narrative. But that can't all be on me. I work a fuck load of hours, have a second kid on the way, and am usually the one posting all of this OP content to begin with in spite of it. I need help.

your mods should be more than just police. they should be actively posting and presenting new threads.

That they should. Maybe I need to take a look at that again. That's on me. But Moderators are not the only ones who are supposed to be creating threads. That's on everyone.

I would be all for removing politics section' date=' but I just as much ignore it, so it doesn't affect me much. I do agree with CCCP over here - your staff should also be posting threads and making this community a lively one that isn't stagnant.[/quote']

It’s not about ignoring them, because I do the same. Eliminating them eliminates all the other bullshit that other people get involved in.

I was for removing the religious and political threads when I was on the staff. They are pointless traffic. It's not a discussion or healthy discourse. It's literally the only place on the board where no one changes their mind, ever.

And clearly there are some doing the work of at least trying to find sources that are centrist, and then others are quoting the Drudge Report...Use ABC news as a source and it's "#fakenews MSM"...Pizzagate, Hillary murdered the pedophile, etc. nonsense.

How many times does impeachment have to be explained?

It's all whatboutism. Want to talk about the President? Facts are ignored and the conversation shifts to past presidents or presidential wannabe's...instead of a focus on what the actual president is doing.

Fuck we have NY Cheif who only posts wise ass replies in the politics section and doesn't post anywhere else...You're telling me he's here for hockey?

Section has zero ROI. More trouble than it's worth.

Yet I can't step away because it's like a Ranger game...Such a clusterfuck that you can't help but sit there and yell at the TV for all the choas and poor play.

I guess that's what makes it fit here. But that's it.

This gets repeated a lot, but isn't actually true. I'm a testament to it. I've moved on numerous topics. Most notably, guns.

right, but they're your helpers. it supposed to be like this: you're the boss-president, they're the managers, we're minimum wage employees with no health benefits.

Like I said, maybe I need to look at that more closely, or make changes. That's on me. It's something I'll certainly think on to figure out what I think the best course of action is.

I agree 100% with the bolded statements. I think it's pointless to have political and religious sections on a hockey-centric forum. I don't come here to read about, learn about, talk about politics or religion. The more I think about it, the more I wonder why they even exist. I suppose you can't have an OT section without someone's desire to talk politics, but it should never be the sole purpose to come here. You guys wanna debate politics? Get off the RANGERS HOCKEY FORUM.

Regardless of whether or not the political threads exist, you don't have to post in them. You don't have to click on them, read, them or ever respond. If they're such a problem, don't post in them every day.

Don't blame mods b/c you don't like to follow rules.
