play the kids? how do you explain McKegg and Haley? Kravtsov and Anderssen?

McKegg/Haley were the 12th/13th man. Only Playing in half the games. You don't want a kid doing that. And Haley was waived.

Kravtsov didn't play well enough to win a spot in the top 9.

Andersson didn't out play any of the other centers, and will likely come back up if he plays well in Hartford.

Not sure how you can make an argument that they aren't playing the kids when there are 7 players 21 or younger on the roster.

The point is you can't claim "play the kids" with Howden if you can't use that excuse with Kravtsov and Andersson. Howden didn't earn dick in the preseason or in the last 40 something games of last year.

It's contradictory to the message the coach has set.

What does Kravtsov, a winger, have to do with Howden, a center? What did Andersson do to force his way up the roster?

How do either of those questions validate Howden's standing on the team? The handling of Kravtsov and Andersson has provided a template for what should be expected of the other young kids on the roster.

So, again, the discussion is about Howden and how he has progressed in 84 games as a pro with plenty of opportunity and ice time, and why he gets treated differently for a lack of effectiveness.

Yet no one can illustrate how Andersson has progressed in 66 NHL games. When someone plays better than Howden they'll get his ice time.

I feel like there are blanket statements being made for non-blanket situations.

Chytil was sent down out of camp, he was the worst top 9 center.

Smae thing for Kravtsov, he didn't beat anyone in top 9.

Lias and Howden made it as bottom 6 centers, likely because that's where they end up based on the depth in front of them.

Zib goes down, and his spot is taken by another top 9 center in Chytil, because Chytil lit up Hartford. Howden and Lias maintain the status quo, because they are who they are.

Now, the argument has been made about why Andersson doesn't ever move up...And Quinn addressed it. But it's not like you can say it's a blind spot, and if you're saying "It's not fair", well life isn't fair. Again there are 2 players who aren't good, and one plays the way the coach wants, and one who doesn't.

Almost everyone who claims Anderson is getting treated unfairly cite Howden's play to prove it. It makes no sense.

It's like the Republicans talking about Obama policy during the Trump impeachment inquiry.

If thats your comparison, I dont think you are paying attention to the Rangers.

All the kids looked like shit in camp. I explained that guys were trying to play for the coach, not the team.

Eventually, with more icetime, many players were able to overcome that mental obstacle. Those with less playing time, didnt.

Andersson thinks too much on the ice instead of reacting. Quinn files this under "needs to play faster" - same thing. He needs to play based on instincts, not on potential repercussions. Although this seemed to improve during the first part of the season, the last 2 weeks it wasnt where it needed to be. I dont think Andersson was horrible, but the line was bad. Hopefully some playing time will do him good.

nor kakko for that matter. Kakko was given a spot only because he was highly touted 2nd OA pick.

Kakko's been pretty blah. Other than 2 breakaways and PP chances (opportunities!) he's been a weaker player. But, as a young kid, he's been put in a situation to be successful, and he continues to grow into that role. Which is exactly what we want to see during a rebuilding season.

Andersson's progression isn't relevant. You either earn the ice time or you don't. Andersson got replaced by someone in the A because he wasn't cutting it. Howden can get replaced by someone in the A because he isn't cutting it. Nobody seems to be able to lay out a good argument for Howden maintaining his standing with the team by way of merit.

Except Quinn, who basically said Howden plays the way Quinn wants, and Andersson doesn't.

I think the pressure is now on Howden to up his game. When the media questions the coach about playing one kid over another, suggesting favoritism, I think Howden steps it up. I don't think he's even played bad. He's just not putting up the points. He's a pretty good all around player. Kinda what that 3rd line center needs to be.

Let's see how Andersson takes this demotion. Personally I think Andersson just isn't very good. BUT, there really was no reason not to give him a look. Just one. Come on Quinn. He's supposed to be one of the top prospects. Gotta kinda make the kid feel wanted.

Honestly I'm expecting him to be traded by Christmas. Hopefully bringing value of any kind back.

You think Andersson was put in a spot to succeed?

Rangers pre-season game #1, Lias wingers: Kreider and Kravtsov

Rangers pre-season game #3, Lias wingers: DiGuiseppe and Strome

Rangers pre season game #4, Lias wingers: Haley and O'Regan

Rangers pre season game #5, Lias wingers: Lemieux and Namestnikov

Rangers pre season game #6, Lias wingers: Fast and Namestnikov

5 games. 4 with NHL caliber lineys. 3 points. He followed that with 18 RS games where he's the ONLY roster player without a goal. Think about that.

He was put in a position to prove himself. He didn't really prove anything.

Kakko has had some blah games when he was invisible earlier in the season. . But he also has had some electric moments, and he's gotten better every games. And before his illness he was arguably the most impressive forward other than Panarin (since Mikka's injury). Andersson has not once had any instances like that. Not one.

This confirms he was performant in the preseason with capable linemates, and non-performant with Haley and Smith for 95% of his ice time.

No it confirms that everybody on the team but him can score a goal, no matter who the linemates are.

The linemates excuse is so weak and tired, it's not even funny.

It seems as though you confused my post as an opinion rather than a fact based on the numbers. You even did the research for me too! What a guy!

he looked good in preseason, better than any other forward his age or younger.

And then playing with Smith Haley and McKegg he didn't look as effective... HMMM....
