Where Rangers Will Draw the Line on Artemi Panarin

The Rangers are likely to attempt to bring Artemi Panarin to Broadway when the free agent market opens on Monday, but sources have indicated that the team will not engage in a bidding war in order to secure the skilled winger.

It is true that the best laid intentions sometimes go up in smoke when the bell rings, but we are told that if the Blueshirts extend Panarin an offer of seven years in the range of $11-11.25 million, they would not then increase their offer to match/exceed higher bids.
The Rangers do appear leaning toward extending Panarin a whopping contract of their own, though our understanding is that a firm decision had not been reached, at least as of early Friday. Signing the winger, who has recorded 116 goals, 204 assists and 320 points through his four-year career split between the Blackhawks and Blue Jackets, would both elevate the clubís talent level and trigger various moves over the summer to clear cap space while imperiling Chris Kreiderís long-term future with team.

But if Panarin, through his agent, Paul Theofanous, pits the Rangers against the Panthers and/or Islanders in a high stakes match game, the they are very unlikely to play.

The highest I go is 9.25.
Multiply that by the Rangers factor (1.25), gives you max offer of 11.5625

As much as I want Panarin, I agree with this idea. I don't want to go to $12 mill a year. Especially how the salary cap didn't go up as expected and next year isn't looking good either on that front.

The line has to be drawn somewhere. IMO drawing it at 11.5 is reasonable. If he passes, then you move on.

The draw of NYC, MSG, and original 6, helps the Rangers significantly over $. But I'm no stranger to being wrong.

He'll probably get paid more than Kreider.

Not only will Panarin sign with us, but he will use his left hand to do so.

I like the idea of a hard line. We already got a lot of upside on the wings. Wouldn’t mind sitting back and see how things develop over next couple years.

agreed. also like the idea of stockpiling picks for 2020 draft. i'd like to see a bit more depth in the system up front.

This article (not sure if a reliable source) cites the Athletic (a more reliable source) in saying that after meeting with the Rangers, Panarin has started turning down other meetings

Just to clear things up, it says he didnt take meeting after "visiting NY", and NOT "meeting with the Rangers" .
Pretty sure he met with the Rangers then met with the Islanders.

It's probably going to be a package deal with both of them going to the Panthers or Islanders.

It's obvious the Rangers are in the mix. That's been the case all along. What's not obvious is how badly does he want to play with Bob? And how badly does he need an extra mill?

Maybe the Rangers sold him on Shesty being the "New Bob".

    I love that we're drawing a line.

If he wants the money, he can go to Florida. I'd be disappointed, but I won't be angry at Gorton for managing our cap as well as he can.

Yeah, that's about right. Shesterkin will anchor Hartford for most of this year; he'll get a cup of coffee in April.

Probably earlier. I was thinking more like February. Trade deadline.

before the year is out. Lundqvist will be benched and Georgiev will get injured. Shesty will never see AHL again because Lundqvist will be shot by JD.
